WHAT'S HAPPENING
  • The Game: Boise State (24-7, 12-6 MW) will face the Fresno State Bulldogs (18-14, 8-10) Friday at 1 p.m. (Mountain) in the Mountain West Championship game in the Thomas & Mack Center at Las Vegas. 

  • How They Got There: Fourth-seeded Boise State advanced to the title game with a dramatic 64-62 victory over No. 5 New Mexico in the quarterfinals Tuesday, followed by a 65-61 won over top-seeded Colorado State Wednesday night in the semifinals ... seventh-seeded Fresno State has won three straight over No. 10 Nevada (62-57), No. 2 Wyoming (58-48) and No. 3 UNLV (53-51) to reach the championship contest.

  • Next Up: If the Broncos win Friday they will wrap-up the MW's automatic berth into next week's NCAA Tournament, lose and they wait to see their fate on Monday night to see if the season continues in either the NCAA or WNIT as an at-large bid.

  • Radio: KTIK (AM 1350) will carry all of the women's games throughout the season. Chris Lewis is in his fourth season as the voice of the Broncos.

GAME PREVIEW
  • The Broncos enter Friday's MW championship game on a conference-best nine-game win streak and are 24-7 overall after defeating New Mexico in the quarterfinals and Colorado State in the semifinals.

  • Boise State tied with UNLV in league play at 12-6, but lost the tiebreaker to the Lady Rebels and is the No. 4 seed in the tournament. 

  • The blue and orange entered the tournament coming off a sweep this past week with a 66-48 road win at Fresno State (Feb. 28) and a 72-48 home victory over Air Force (March 3). 

  • Brooke Pahukoa leads Boise State on the year averaging 13.5 points per game (11th MW) ... Shalen Shaw adds 10.3 points (19th MW) and team-high 7.1 rebounds (11th MW) per game ... Marijke Vanderschaaf also chips in 10.2 points (20th MW) and 6.5 rebounds (14th MW) per game.

  • On the year, Boise State is second in the Mountain West for scoring offense averaging 69.2 points per game while shooting 40.5 percent (4th MW) from the floor and 33.3 percent (3rd MW) from behind the arc ... the Broncos allow 62.1 points per game (t-6th MW). 

  • Fresno State is 18-14 overall and was 8-10 in MW play, seventh place ... the Bulldogs enter the game winners of three straight at the MW tournament with victories over Nevada, Wyoming and UNLV, the No. 11, 2 and 3 seeds.

  • On the year, Candice White and Bego Faz Davalos lead Fresno State both scoring 14.8 points (5th MW) ... Faz Davalos adds a MW -high 11.1 rebounds per game. 

  • The Bulldogs are averaging 60.3 points per game (9th MW) this season, while allowing 59.7 ppg (5th MW) ... they shoot 40.7 percent (3rd MW) from the floor as a team and 29.8 percent (9th MW) from beyond the arc. 

  • This will be the third meeting of the year with Boise State sweeping the regular season series 67-66 in Boise (Jan. 14) and 66-48 at Fresno (Feb. 28).

  • This is the 37th meeting in the all-time series which the Bulldogs lead 24-12 and 6-3 in the MW regular season series.

  • They have met once previously in MW Championship Tournament ... Fresno State defeated the Broncos 72-55 in the 2013 quarterfinals.


FIRST TIME THEY MET
  • The first time they met this year was in Boise (Jan. 14) when Shalen Shaw hit one-of-two free throws with three seconds left in the game to give Boise State a 67-66 victory. 

  • Marta Hermida led all scorers in the game with 14 points, nine came in the second half, a team high, as she shot 4-of-8 in the third and fourth quarters combined.

  • The Broncos took their first lead at 8-6 when Marijke Vanderschaaf hit a layup with 4:02 to play in the opening stanza. 

  • Boise State never trailed again and led by as many as nine points twice, but the Broncos were unable to put the game away as Fresno State kept it close throughout and managed to tie it up four times in the second half.

  • The blue and orange led by seven, 53-46, heading into the fourth quarter. 

  • The Bulldogs would win the fourth period out scoring the Broncos 20-14 and came back to tie the score twice, the last was at 66 with 2:08 to play on a Bego Faz Davalos layup. 

  • That set up Shaw's game winning free throw with three seconds remaining.


LAST TIME THEY MET
  • The last time they met this year was in Fresno (Feb. 28) when Brooke Pahukoa scored 21 points to lead Boise State to a dominating 66-48 win on the Bulldogs' Senior Night.

  • Boise State led nearly the entire game (38:19) as they pulled away from the Bull-dogs in the first half following a 31-9 run to take a 44-21 halftime advantage. 

  • The Broncos led by as many as 28 points in the third period, then held off a Fresno State rally attempt that pulled the Bulldogs within 10 points early in the fourth quarter.

  • But that was as close as Boise State would allow the Bulldogs to get as it closed the game on a 12-4 run to record the Broncos first win in Fresno since 2004, snapping an 

  • 11-game losing streak at the Save Mart Center.

TEAM NOTES
  • Boise State is now 24-7 overall and has clinched its fourth-consecutive winning season and seventh 20-win campaign in program history.

  • The win over Colorado State on Wednesday tied the school record for wins in a season with 24.

  • The Broncos are 14-2 at home in Taco Bell Arena and 10-5 on the road.

  • During the current nine-game win streak the Broncos have rallied five times for the win after trailing entering the four quarter ... the Broncos trailed against both New Mexico and Colorado State here at the MW Championship.

  • Boise State started the season out on an eight-game win streak, they currently have an active nine-game streak going at the end of the campaign.

  • Season of first, prior to this year Boise State had not won a game at Colorado State or Wyoming since joining the league for the 2011-12 campaign, in addition, it had not won at Fresno State during the coach Presnell era (12 years) ... they won at all three locations this season. 

  • Boise State is 19-1 this year when leading after three quarters ... 36-3 since the quarter format was adopted for the 2015-16 season.

  • The Broncos are 19-0 this year when leading with five minutes to play in the game ... 92-4 (all games) since Boise State joined the MW for 2011-12 campaign. 

  • On the year, Boise State has used a balanced offensive attack and has had three or more players reach double-figure scoring in 21 of 31 games ... they are 19-2 in those 21 contests.

  • The balanced attack includes 10 players having scored double-digit points this season, eight have led the team in scoring at least once ... no one has led the team in scoring more than 10 times (Brooke Pahukoa).

  • The Broncos currently have three players averaging double-digit points led by Brooke Pahukoa (13.5 ppg) followed by Shalen Shaw (10.3 ppg) and Marijke Vanderschaaf (10.2 ppg) ... six players average 7.3 or more points per game.

  • In MW play, Brooke Pahukoa averaged 12.4 (13th MW), while Marijke Vanderschaaf averages 10.9 points per game (18th MW).

  • Five Broncos have reached double-digit points at least 10 times each this season and a total of seven have had four or more with a high of 18 by Brooke Pahukoa.

  • Boise State is third in the MW for 3-point percentage as a team at .333 ... they have made 224 3-pointers this season and average 7.2 per game.

  • Defensively, Boise State ranks second in the MW and 13th nationally in 3-point defense holding opponents to 27.8 percent from beyond the arc.

  • Winter Chill, Boise State shot 38.8 percent from 3-point range in nonconference play to lead the MW and rank 17th nationally, since Christmas and the start of league play the Broncos have struggled shooting a chilly 28.1 percent to rank ninth in the MW (conference games). 

  • However, the Broncos have thawed out some over the last seven games making 45-of-122 attempts (.369) from the arc for a 6.4 average.
