Marshall and Lendhardt lead Broncos with career-high points with 15 and 14 respectively.

BOISE, Idaho (2/27/2010) - It was a long night for the Broncos Saturday as Boise State dropped a 95-72 decision to Fresno State in Taco Bell Arena at Boise. The Bulldogs used a 17-3 run midway through the first half to break an 18-18 game open as the Bulldogs ran away from the Broncos in the Western Athletic Conference game. Boise State turned to its underclassmen in the second half and were led in scoring by Julia Marshall and Lauren Lenhardt with career-highs on 15 and 14 points respectively.

Boise State was solid early taking two five-point leads early in the first half, the last came at 10-5 with 14:14 to go in the opening 20 minutes. But it went down hill from there as the Broncos seemed a step slow most of the night.

Fresno State slowly began to build steam as they turned it on. With the game tied 18 all at the 10:08 mark, the Bulldogs rolled off a 17-3 run to take control of the game up 35-21 with just under six minutes remaining before half. They finished the period by out scoring the Broncos 31-9 in the final 10 minutes eventually taking a 20-point lead, 49-29, into the intermission.

Boise State never really threatened Fresno State in the second period as the Bulldogs stretched their lead out to a game-high 32 points, 76-44, with 11:39 left. With little doubt as to the outcome the Broncos played their underclassmen for most of the final eight minutes who closed to within 20 points, 85-65, with 5:27 to go.

Three Broncos recorded double-figure points led by Marshall’s 15 on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, she added three rebounds, and two steals to her totals. Lauren Lenhardt followed with 14 points, 12 in the second period, to go with three boards, one assist, two blocks and one steal. Janie Bos added 10 points, three boards, one assist, one block and one steal. Tasha Harris chipped in seven points and team-highs rebounds and assists with eight and five respectively.

Fresno State was led by Emma Andrews with 21 points, five-of-five from 3-point range, followed by Joh-Teena Filipe with 14 points and team-high eight rebounds. Meanwhile, Jaleesa Ross contributed 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and four steals, and Hayley Munro added 11 points and six boards.

Boise State shot 41.8 percent (28-67) from the floor, 26.7 percent (4-15) from 3-point range, and 70.6 percent (12-17) from the free-throw line. Fresno State countered with 48.5 percent (33-68) shooting from the floor, 48.3 percent (14-29) from the arc and 71.4 percent (15-21) from the charity stripe.

The loss drops Boise State to 17-11 overall, 6-8 in WAC play and into sixth place, as well as, 12-2 at home. Fresno State keeps its perfect record in conference improving to 15-0 in the WAC and 24-5 overall. Up next for Boise State is a road trip to Utah State this Wednesday before returning home for the season finale next Saturday versus La Tech.
