Broncos Hit 14 Treys to Beat Spartans
Brooke Pahukoa's five 3-pointers led a Boise State barrage from beyond the arc as the Broncos hit 14 triples to run past San Jose State 86-64 in a Mountain West women's basketball game at Taco Bell Arena Saturday afternoon.


WHAT’S HAPPENING
  • The Game: Fresh off four-consecutive victories the Broncos (19-7, 9-6 MW) will be looking for their 20th win of the season when they travel to San Jose, Calif., on Saturday to face the San Jose State Spartans (10-16, 7-7 MW) at 3 p.m. (MT) in the Events Center ... the game will feature the top-two offenses in the Mountain West.  

  • Next Up: Boise State travels to Fresno, Calif., on Tuesday to face the Fresno State Bulldogs (15-12, 8-8 MW) at 8 p.m. (MT) in the Save Mart Center.


A QUICK GAME PREVIEW
  • The Broncos enter Saturday’s contest on a four-game win streak and are 19-7 overall and 9-6 in league, good for fifth place ... the win streak includes a 69-59 road victory at Air Force (Feb. 11), a 64-62 home win over New Mexico (Feb. 15), a 53-43 victory at Wyoming (Feb. 18) and a 77-74 home win versus Nevada (Feb. 22).

  • Brooke Pahukoa leads Boise State on the year averaging 12.6 points per game (12th MW) ... Shalen Shaw adds 10.2 points (21st MW) and team-high 6.9 rebounds (14th MW) per game ... Marijke Vanderschaaf chips in 10.7 points (18th MW) and 6.2 rebounds (19th MW) per game.

  • On the year, Boise State is second in the Mountain West for scoring offense averaging 69.5 points per game while shooting 40 percent (5th MW) from the floor and 32.5 percent (5th MW) from behind the arc.

  • San Jose State is 10-17 overall and 7-8 in MW play ... the Spartans have won two of their last three games with a home victory over Fresno State (77-68 ot), a road win at Air Force (83-67) followed by a road loss at Utah State (82-78) on Wednesday.

  • On the year, Dezz Ramos leads SJSU and the MW in scoring at 23.1 points per game ... Jasmine Smith adds 11.7 points (15th MW) and 8.5 rebounds (4th MW) per game.

  • San Jose State is averaging 72 points (1st MW) per game this season, while allowing 78.6 ppg (11th MW) ...  the Spartans shoot 38.3 percent (7th MW) from the floor as a team and 30.5 percent (7th MW) from beyond the arc.

  • This will be the second meeting of the year with Boise State winning the first contest 86-64 in Boise on Jan. 21.

  • It is the 30th meeting in the all-time series which the Broncos lead 18-11 and 5-1 in the MW regular season series.

 
LAST TIME THEY MET
  • Last time they met was in Boise (Jan. 21) when Brooke Pahukoa’s five 3-pointers led a Boise State barrage from beyond the arc as the Broncos hit 14 triples to run past San Jose State 86-64.  

  • Boise State used a 18-0 run that spanned the final 3:50 of the first quarter to 8:55 in the second to take control of the game that put the Broncos up 30-14.

  • The Broncos were never really threatened after that run as they led by double digits throughout the final three quarters and by as many as 31 points (68-37) midway through the third period.

  • Pahukoa finished the game with her sixth 20-plus scoring contest tallying a team-high 23.

  • Freshman Jordan Woodvine finished the game with a career-high 11 points which included going 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.

  • Riley Lupfer was also hot from long distance converting on 4-of-7 3-point attempts to finish with 13 points.



BRONCO FASTBREAK NOTES

TEAM NOTES
  • The Broncos are 9-6 in conference play following a 77-74 win over Nevada Wednesday night in Boise.

  • Boise State is now 19-7 overall and has clinched its fourth-consecutive winning season ... the Broncos are 13-2 at home in Taco Bell Arena and 6-5 on the road.

  • Boise State has rallied from behind in the fourth quarter during its last three games to record victories over New Mexico (Feb. 15), Wyoming (Feb. 18) and Nevada (Feb. 22).

  • On the year, Boise State has a balanced offensive attack and has had three or more players reach double-figure scoring in 19 of 26 games ... they are 17-2 in those 19 contests.

  • The balanced attack includes 10 players having scored double-digit points this season, eight have led the team in scoring at least once ... no one has led the team in scoring more than seven times (Brooke Pahukoa).

  • The Broncos currently have three players averaging double-digit points led by Brooke Pahukoa (12.6 ppg) followed by Marijke Vanderschaaf (10.7 ppg) and Shalen Shaw (10.2 ppg) ... five players average 8.2 or more points per game.

  • In MW play, Brooke Pahukoa and Marijke Vanderschaaf lead the team averaging 11.3 points per game each, tied for 16th in the league.

  • Five Broncos have reached double-digit points at least 10 times each this season and a total of seven have had four or more with a high of 14 by Brooke Pahukoa and Marijke Vanderschaaf.

  • Boise State is fifth in the MW for 3-point percentage as a team at .325 ... they have made  189 3-pointers this season and average 7.3 per game.

  • Defensively, Boise State ranks second in the MW and 15th nationally in 3-point defense holding opponents to 27.1 percent from beyond the arc.

  • Winter Chill, Boise State shot 38.8 percent from 3-point range in nonconference play to lead the MW and rank 17th nationally, since Christmas and the start of league play the Broncos have struggled shooting a chilly 27.1 percent to rank 11th in the MW (conference games).

 
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • During the current four-game win streak Marijke Vanderschaaf has led the team in scoring at 15.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game ... no one else is averaging double-figure points, five range between 8.3 and 6.0 points per game.

  • Head coach Gordy Presnell hit the 600 career wins milestone against Portland (Dec. 18), Presnell is the 32nd coach in NCAA DI history to hit the mark ... he now has 610 wins.

  • Brooke Pahukoa leads the team and ranks 12th in the MW for points per game at 12.6 ... she has a team-high (tied) 14 games in double-digit points, six with 20-plus, including 21 at New Mexico (Jan. 18) and 23 versus San Jose State (Jan. 21).

  • Brooke Pahukoa has moved into 10th all-time (1,233) for career points at Boise State, 28 (1,261) short of tying for ninth.

  • Shalen Shaw is third on team and 21st in MW for scoring at 10.2 points per game ... she leads the team and is 12th in MW for rebounds at 6.9 per game.

  • Shaw tallied a team-high eight rebounds against Concordia (Dec. 7) to reach the 500 career rebounds milestone.

  • Shaw grabbed a team-high (tied) 11 rebounds in win over New Mexico (Feb. 15) to move from 15th on the Boise State career rebound list into 12th with 598 ... she now sits at 607, 20 short of sole possession of 11th and 40 short of seventh.

  • Shaw ranks fourth among active players this year in the MW for career double-doubles with 14, two this season.

  • Shaw went down injured in the game at Nevada and missed the next three contests, the Broncos went 1-3 in that stretch (including loss at Nevada) ... the Broncos are 4-0 since her return.

  • Vanderschaaf is second on team averaging 10.7 points per game (18th MW) and has scored double-figure points in 14 contests  (tied for most on team) including a career-high 26 in victory against New Mexico (Feb. 15), 22 at San Diego State (Jan. 7) and 20 in the win over Wyoming (Jan. 28).

  • Marijke Vanderschaaf is averaging 6.2 rebounds per game (2nd on team / 19th MW) and has 15 games with six or more boards ... she had a career-high 11 in win at Colorado State (Dec. 31) and in win over New Mexico (Feb. 15) to complete a double-double (26 pts/11rbs).

  • Rodriguez is second in the MW and 25th nationally in assists per game at 6.0.

  • Rodriguez set the school’s career assists record earlier this fall at 452 and has since stretched it out to 580 ... fourth in MW history.

  • Joyce Harrell has started in the last seven contests averaging 4.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.

  • Harrell led Boise State in her second career start versus Colorado State (Feb. 1) tallying a team and career-high 13 points to go with a team high and career-tying eight rebounds.

  • Freshman Riley Lupfer has had a solid debut season recording 10 games in double-figure scoring to average 8.2 points per game with a career-high of 19 in win over Portland (Dec. 18).

  • Marta Hermida is averaging 8.3 points (4th on team) and 4.1 rebounds during conference play ... 8.9 points and 3.8 rebounds on the year ... she has 12 games in double-digit points.
