Boise State Falls 75-57 to Fresno State

BOISE, Idaho (2/17/2011) - Boise State University’s women’s basketball team lost its eighth-consecutive game of the season 75-57 to Fresno State Thursday night in Taco Bell Arena. The Bulldogs seized control of the game early capitalizing on Bronco miscues for a 15-point, 42-27, lead at halftime. Fresno State wasted little time in the second half putting the game away as they ran out to a game-high 22 point, 64-42, lead midway through the period. Boise State did not do itself any favors in the contest turning the ball over a season-high 31 times resulting in 27 Fresno State points. Kati Isham led Boise State with 12 points as the Broncos fell to 11-15 overall and 2-10 in Western Athletic Conference play, the Bulldogs improved to 18-7 and 9-2 in league.

Fresno State opened the game hitting their first two shots, both 3-pointers, to take a quick 6-0 lead. They never relinquished the scoreboard advantage in the game. Once the Bulldogs opened a 20 point advantage the with 13 minutes to go in the contest the Broncos would get no closer than 17 points the rest of the way.

Contributing to the Bronco’s deficit were 17 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes and 14 more in the second half, resulting in 27 Fresno State points off Boise State’s generosity.  The Broncos did force 18 Fresno State turnovers which they converted into 19 points.

Defensively, the Broncos struggled shutting down the Bulldogs who shot 50 percent (31-62) from the floor and 42.3 percent (11-26) from the arc. Fresno State did struggle from the line hitting two-of-eight free throws in a game that saw few fouls called as they combined for 27, 14 by Boise State and 13 by the Bulldogs.

Boise State did shoot the ball well hitting 42.6 percent (20-47) from the court, 36.8 percent (7-19) from the arc and 90.9 percent (10-11) from the free-throw line. The Broncos also out rebounded the Bulldogs 33 to 27 during the game. However, turnovers gave Fresno State 15 more shots than their hosts.

Following Isham who had a team-high 12 points for Boise State were Janie Bos, Cinnamon Lister and Janelle Kearney who scored eight points apiece, Nicole Brady added seven. Kearney had a team-high seven rebounds followed by Lister with five.

Jaleesa Ross led Fresno State with 18 points, five rebounds and seven assists. Marnique Arnold was the only other Bulldog in double-figures with 14 to go with four boards.

Boise State will close its home schedule this Saturday when the Broncos host the University of Nevada for “Senior Night.” Tip-off for the Broncos’ home finale is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (Mountain) in Taco Bell Arena. Nevada defeated Idaho Thursday night 69-63 and will bring a 18-7 overall mark and a 7-5 league record into Saturday’s game.
