Boise State Rally Comes Up Short at Colorado State
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Boise State let one slip away Tuesday night after battling back to tie the game twice late, as the Broncos lost 67-58 to Colorado State in a Mountain West women's basketball contest at Fort Collins, Colo. It was a single-digit difference most of the way with Boise State trailing the entire time. The Broncos rallied twice late to tie the contest at 54 with 4:07 to play and again at 56 at the 2:49 mark. Unfortunately, the Rams responded with an 11-2 run to seize the victory as the Broncos fell to 13-12 on the year and 4-6 in conference.
The Broncos started the game slow as the Rams rolled out of the gates on an 11-0 run. Turnovers hurt Boise State early as they fell behind by 11 points twice, the last came at the 12:32 mark and the score at 15-4. Boise State committed 14 turnovers in the first half accounting for 10 CSU points, while the Broncos had four points on nine Ram turnovers.
Down 11 with over 12 minutes to play in the opening period, the Broncos rallied pulling to within two points, 26-24, with 1:26 remaining. Kati Isham led the charge scoring all eight of her team-high first half points in the final nine minutes of the frame. The senior guard finished the game with a team second-best 14 points shooting four-of-eight from the floor and three-of-six from the 3-point arc.
The Rams scored one more field goal before half to take a four-point 28-24 lead into the break.
The second half was played at a higher pace as the teams combined for 73 points. The Rams ran out to a eight point, 39-31, lead three and half minutes into the period. Nicole Brady and Kinzi Poteet combined for 12 points as Boise State fought back pulling to within two at 42-40 with 11:14 remaining.
Brady finished the night leading the team in scoring for the third consecutive contest with 15 against CSU, hitting six-of-13 shots with two 3-pointers. Poteet was solid in the post on both ends of the court playing 32 minutes recording eight points on four-of-five shooting and a team-high nine rebounds.
The last 10 minutes was close with Colorado State keeping the Broncos at bay until the last four minutes. Trailing by eight points, 54-46, with seven minutes to go, Boise State rallied with an 8-0 run to tie the game with 4:07 left. Isham hit the last of her three 3-pointers to tie the game, it was the last field goal of the game for the Broncos.
CSU scored on its next possession when Sam Martin hit a layup coming out of a timeout for a 56-54 advantage. Isham tied the game again, this time at 56 all, when she converted on two free throws with 2:47 on the clock.
Things then went the Rams way as they scored 11 consecutive points in the next two minutes to ice the game up 67-56. Lauren Lenhardt finished the scoring in the contest with a pair of free throws with 19 seconds remaining to make the final score 67-58.
Colorado State did a good job taking Lenhardt out of the game double and triple teaming her as she was held to four points. Boise State shot 43.8 percent from the floor, 31.8 percent (7-22) from the arc and 69.2 percent (9-13) from the free throw line.

Next up for Boise State is a return trip to Boise on Wednesday before the Broncos head to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on TCU in a big conference game for the Blue and Orange.
