Boise State Fades in Second Half as Broncos Fall to Idaho.

BOISE, Idaho (2/12/2011) - After leading the entire first half Boise State struggled in the second as the Broncos lost 61-46 to Idaho in Taco Bell Arena Saturday night. Boise State opened the game fast taking an 11-point lead midway through the first half and a four point 24-20 lead into the break. Unfortunately, The Broncos came out flat in the second period allowing the Vandals to rally for the win. Janie Bos led Boise State with 10 points as the Broncos fell to 11-14 on the year and 2-9 in Western Athletic Conference play. 

Boise State opened the game with intensity racing out to a period-high 11-point lead at 18-7 midway through the half, sparked by Kati Isham with back-to-back 3-pointers to open the game. The Broncos maintained an eight-to-10 point lead throughout most of the opening 20 minutes before they hit a scoring drought late. Boise State’s last points in the period were a pair of Isham free throws at 4:48. In the meantime, Idaho mounted a small rally cutting the Bronco advantage to four, 24-20, at the break.  

The Broncos opened the second period flat as the Vandals rolled off a 9-1 run to take their first lead of the game at 29-25. Boise State never regained the lead after that as the Broncos went cold, struggling to get shots to fall as they shot 28 percent (9-32) from the floor and 11 percent (1-9) from the arc in the half.

Boise State made one rally attempt where the Broncos pulled to within one at 37-36 with 11 minutes to go but that was the last real challenge they made as turnovers started to mount. After committing just six in the first period they made 11 in the second. 

Idaho stretched its lead into double-digits with five minutes to go and then to a game-high 15 points, 61-46, at the buzzer.

Janie Bos was the lone Bronco in double-figure scoring finishing with 10, Kati Isham followed with eight while Kinzi Poteet added six points and six boards. Freshman guard Cinnamon Lister had a team-high seven rebounds to go with two points and three assists.

Derisa Taleni led a trio of Vandals in double-figure scoring with 17 points. She was followed by Yinka Olorunnife with 15 points, Alyssa Charlston chipped in 11. Olorunnife, Bianca Cheever and Charlston tied for the team-high in rebounds with eight each.

Boise State finished the night shooting 27.4 (17-62) from the floor, 21.7 percent (5-23) from the arc and 53.8 percent (7-13) from the foul line. Meanwhile, Idaho hit 35.4 percent (17-48) from the court, 20 percent (4-20) from beyond the arc and 92 percent (23-25) from the free-throw line. Idaho out rebounded Boise State 40-38 during the game. However, the Broncos had the advantage in offensive boards 12 to four but failed to score off any of them as the Vandals had a six to zero edge in second chance points.

Boise State will close the home schedule next week when they host Fresno State on Thursday and Nevada on Saturday.
