Brady leads Broncos with career-high 18 points.

FRESNO, Calif. (2/10/2011) - Boise State made it interesting early but eventually fell 78-59 at Fresno State Thursday night in the Save Mart Center at Fresno. The Broncos led 13-5 early before Fresno State took control midway through the first period. The Bulldogs capitalized on Boise State turnovers and 3-point shooting (16-41) to pull away from the Broncos. Nicole Brady had a career-high 18 points followed by Kinzi Poteet with 12 and a team-high nine rebounds as the Broncos lost their sixth-consecutive game falling to 11-13 overall and 2-8 in Western Athletic Conference play, Fresno State improved to 16-7 on the year and 7-2 in league.

Boise Sate opened the game in promising fashion racing out to a 13-5 advantage four minutes into the contest. However, the Bulldogs rallied catching the Broncos at 17-17 with 10 minutes to play. Boise State battled hard keeping pace with Fresno State until the 7:31 mark when Kinzi Poteet hit a layup to make the score 25-24 in favor of the Bulldogs. That is when the floor fell out from beneath the Broncos as they would not hit another field goal in the period.

Fresno State took control of momentum and began to pull away as it launched 24 shots from 3-point range converting on eight (33 pct.) in the first 20 minutes. The Bulldogs also hit the glass late in the period finishing with 12 offensive boards in the half for a 16-4 advantage in second chance points.

The Broncos eventually went into the break down 11 points at 38-27. Nicole Brady led Boise State with nine first-half points, Kati Isham followed by going two-for-two from the arc for six points as the Broncos shot 32 percent (10-31) from the floor and 33 percent (4-12) from the arc in the period. 

The second half saw Boise State’s shooting woes continue and turnovers mount as Fresno State extended its lead out to 23 points at 67-44 with seven minutes left. The Broncos attempted to rally cutting the deficit to 14, 67-53, with four and half minutes left but would get no closer.

Major factors in the outcome of the contest were Boise State’s 21 turnovers resulting in 22 Bulldog points and Fresno State’s 3-point shooting. The Bulldogs took 41 shots from beyond the 3-point arc in the contest hitting 16 (39 percent).

Brady shot six-of-13 from the floor, hit two 3-pointers and went four-for-four from the line to lead Boise State with 18 points. Poteet went five-of-seven from the floor and added two free throws for a career-high 12 points while tying her personal best on the glass with nine rebounds. Isham finished with eight points followed by Diana Lee with seven.

Jaleesa Ross was on fire from the 3-point arc hitting eight-of-16 attempts to lead Fresno State with 32 points. Rosie Moult had 15 points and eight rebounds followed by Taja Edwards with 14 points, Hayley Munro added a team-high 12 rebounds and seven points.

Boise State shot 34.9 percent (22-63) from the floor, 28.6 percent (6-21) from the arc and 69.2 percent (9-13) from the free-throw line. Fresno State converted 40.6 percent (28-69) from the floor, 39 percent (16-41) from the arc and 75 percent (6-8) from the charity stripe.  The Broncos did out score the Bulldogs in the paint 28 to 24 and in bench points 23 to 10.  Fresno State won the glass 44 to 42.

Next up for Boise State is instate-rival Idaho in the second Bronco-Vandal doubleheader of the season on Saturday night in Taco Bell Arena at Boise, tip is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. (Mountain).
