Bos and Kearney combine for 35 points in loss.

BOISE, Idaho (2/5/2011) - A combined 35 points by Janie Bos and Janelle Kearney were not enough to lead the Broncos to victory as they dropped an 84-69 decision to Utah State Saturday night in Taco Bell Arena. Boise State struggled stopping the Aggies defensively who shot nearly 51 percent from the floor, then added to their troubles by committing 25 turnovers as Utah State completed the season sweep of the Broncos. Bos scored 19 points while Kearney had a career night with 16 points as Boise State fell to 11-12 on the year and 2-7 in Western Athletic Conference play. Meanwhile, Utah State improved to 12-10 overall and 6-3 in league.

Utah State used a 9-0 run to take control of the game midway through the first half. Down two at 12-10 with 14:18 left the Aggies rolled off their run to take a 19-12 lead with 12:50 to go. Boise State never led again and its deficit reached a half-high 13 points 33-20 at the 8:42 mark. The Broncos came back to within six a couple of times before the break but went into halftime down nine, 41-32.

Janie Bos led Boise State in the period with 10 points and six rebounds as the Broncos shot 43 percent from the floor during the opening 20 minutes. Utah State opened the game on fire hitting 14 of its first 19 shots (73.7 pct.) in the first 13 minutes before cooling off a little down the stretch.

Utah State slowly pulled away from Boise State in the second half taking a game-high 20-point lead, 75-55, with 7:56 left. The Aggie advantage was in double-digits for nearly the entire second half. The closest the Broncos came was a six-point deficit after Diana Lee hit a 3-pointer to open the period making the score 41-35.

Turnovers hurt Boise State throughout the contest as the Broncos gave it away 25 times resulting in 30 Aggie points, many off them on fastbreaks where Utah State held a 16-4 advantage.

Boise State played without the services of sophomore post Lauren Lenhardt who sat out the game injured. However, the partnership of Janie Bos and Janelle Kearney carried the Broncos offensively as they combined for 35 points. Bos led Boise State on nine-of-10 shooting for a team-high 19 points to go with a team-best nine rebounds. Kearney followed with a career-high 16 points on seven-of-nine shooting to go with five boards. Heather Pilcher added nine points and six rebounds.

Utah State had four players reach double-figure points led by Devyn Christensen with 25 points. She was followed by Alice Coddington with 17 points and team-high seven assists, Amber White chipped in 11 points followed by Maddy Plunkett with 10.

Both teams shot the ball well from the floor on the night, both shot 50 percent or better in the second half. Boise State finished at 46.4 percent (26-56) from the floor but struggled from beyond the arc hitting 15.8 percent (3-19) and from the free-throw line converting 58.3 percent (14-24). Utah State countered with 50.8 percent (32-63) from the court in the game, 36.8 percent (7-19) from the arc and 72.2 percent (13-18) from the charity stripe.

Boise State who has lost five straight games now faces a road trip to Fresno State next Thursday before returning home for a three-game homestand.
