Boise State snaps San Jose jinx in 78-51 road victory over the Spartans...

SAN JOSE, Calif. (1/31/08) - Boise State over came a six year jinx to win for the first time at San Jose State by the score of 78-51 Thursday night. Jenna Galassi led the Broncos to the win with 16 points as Boise State extended their win streak to six games. The impressive 27 point victory keeps the Broncos in contention for the WAC title.

Boise State opened the game on a 12-0 run and never trailed in the game taking a 13 point, 43-30, lead into the intermission. The Broncos hit 50 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes making 14 of 28 shots. Jenna Galassi and Ja'Lara Walker led the blue and orange in the first period with 12 and eight points respectively.

The Broncos started the second period with a 14-2 run to claim a quick 25 point, 59-37, lead six minutes into the final half. Boise State eventually stretched their lead to 36 points, 73-37, with 7:14 to play on a 30-7 run from the start of the stanza. With the outcome pretty much assured, Boise State played primarily their bench in the final six minutes as the Broncos rested their starters for Saturday’s game at Idaho, their third game in six days.

Four Broncos hit double figure points against the Spartans led by Galassi’s 16 to go with her six rebounds. Tasha Harris extended her double digit scoring streak to 23 games with 13 points, while adding six boards, five assists, and one block on the night. Jessica Thompson recorded 13 points, one rebound, five assists, two blocks, and three steals. Sophomore Ja'Lara Walker started at center for the second straight game scoring 10 points and grabbing a team high seven rebounds to go with two blocks. Jackie Lee was held to four points but tied Walker with seven boards.

Christine Martin led San Jose State with 19 points including going seven-of-12 from the floor and three-of-five from beyond the arc. Natalie White followed with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Brittany Powell led San Jose State on the glass with a team high seven rebounds. Alisha Hicks added seven points and six boards.

Boise State continues to shoot well from the court making 48.1 percent (25-of-52) of their attempts, they also hit 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from 3-point range, and an impressive 81.5 percent (22-of-27) from the free-throw line. San Jose State made 29.7 percent (19-of-64) from the floor, 41.2 percent (7-of-17) from the arc, and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the charity stripe.

The Broncos dominated the boards out rebounding the Spartans 45-to-27. Even though Boise State uncharacteristically turned the ball over 24 times compared to 19 by San Jose State, they out scored the Spartans 24-to-12 in points off turnovers.

The game was the second straight for the Broncos to lead from the opening tip to the final buzzer never trailing in the contest. The win improves Boise State to 14-6 overall and 6-2 in WAC action moving them into a tie for second place with Nevada. The Wolf Pack (14-6, 6-2 WAC) lost 81-49 at Fresno State Thursday night. The loss by the Spartans drops San Jose State to 2-18 overall and 1-6 in WAC play.

Next up for Boise State is a Saturday night encounter in Moscow, Idaho against their arch-rivals the Idaho Vandals (2-17, 1-6 WAC). Tip-off is schedule for 8:00 p.m. (Mountain) in the Cowan Spectrum.
