Women's Basketball Falls at Idaho 68-48...
Lenhardt leads Broncos with 14 points.

MOSCOW, Idaho (1/22/2011) - A strong second half for Idaho was too much for the Broncos to overcome as Boise State fell 68-48 in Moscow. Idaho opened the second half hitting five 3-pointers in the first 10 minutes and shot 52 percent to pull away from the Broncos. Lauren Lenhardt led Boise State with 14 points as the Broncos were held to a season-low 48 points. The loss drops Boise State to 11-8 on the year and 2-3 in Western Athletic Conference play, Idaho improves to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in league play.

The first half was a competitive battle between the two Gem State rivals with the Vandals leading the entire way. The largest lead of the opening 20 minutes was the nine-point 30-21 lead at halftime. Every time the Broncos rallied to pull within one or two points, Idaho responded with a short run of their own to pull the lead out to five to seven points.

Four Broncos scored in the first half, led by Kati Isham who score the last seven points of the period for the Broncos. She was followed by Lenhardt and Stacie Gross with six each. Yinke Olorunnife led the Vandals with 13 points followed by Rachele Kloke with nine.

Boise State shot 38 percent (9-24) from the floor, 22 percent (2-9) from beyond the arc and 50 percent (1-2) from the free-throw line. Idaho countered by shooting 42 percent (13-31) from the floor, 36 percent (4-11) from the arc and did not attempt a free throw in the first period.

There were a combined four offensive rebounds in the first half, one by Boise State, as neither team could get past the defensive box outs on missed shots. The boards were relatively even overall with the Vandals holding a 18 to 16 edge in rebounds. Turnovers were a key in the half with the Broncos giving it away 11 times to Idaho’s eight resulting in a eight-point advantage, 11 to three, for the Vandals in points off turnovers.

Boise State opened the second half slow as the Vandals ran off a 13-4 run to take a 18-point 43-25 lead less than five minutes into the period. That quick start was all Idaho needed to seize control. The Vandals went to the long shot early hitting five treys in the first 10 minutes to pull away from the Broncos. The largest lead of the game was 24 points which Idaho had twice at 64-40 with 4:45 left and again with less than a minute to go at 68-44.

On the night, the Broncos shot 36.7 percent (18-49) from the floor, 18.2 percent (2-11) from the arc and 76.9 percent (10-13) from the free-throw line. They shot 36.7 percent in the second half from the floor and went 0-2 from the arc. Idaho shot 52 percent in the second half to finished the game at 46.4 percent.
