Harris Scores 21 as Boise State Runs Past San Jose State 75-53 for First WAC Win...
BOISE, Idaho (1/20/2010) - Tasha Harris scored 21 points to lead Boise State to its first Western Athletic Conference victory of the season defeating San Jose State 75-53 Wednesday night in Taco Bell Arena in Boise. After a slow start the Broncos caught fire midway through the first half to break a close game open.

“I thought our team play well tonight and everyone gave a solid effort,” said Boise State head coach Gordy Presnell. “We needed this win to get us over the hump in conference play. We have been closed in the previous three games but came up short. I am happy for the team.”
Down five, 17-12, with 11:44 to go in the opening period, Boise State used a 13-4 run to take a 25-21 lead with 8:25 remaining before half. Boise State never trailed again in the game as they ran off to the 22-point victory snapping a three-game losing streak in the progress as the Broncos improved to 12-6 overall and 1-3 in conference. Boise State is now 11-0 when leading at the half, the Broncos took a nine point, 38-29, advantage into the break.

Boise Sate scored the opening basket of the second period to take an 11 point 40-29 lead. The advantage never shrunk below double-digits again as Boise State slowly pulled away from San Jose State. Up 10 points, 46-36, with 13:21 to play the Broncos ran off a 14-4 run to stretch the lead to 20 points, 60-40, by the 9:07 mark. The closest the Spartans would get after that was 15 points as the Broncos refused to let up down the stretch.

Boise State finished the night shooting a seven-game high 46.6 percent from the floor, 27.8 percent from the 3-point arc, and a decent 72.7 percent (16-22) from the free-throw line. The Broncos had failed to convert more than 55 percent from the line in their previous two contests. San Jose State countered by hitting 38.5 percent from the floor, 16.7 percent from long range and 73.3 percent from the charity stripe.

Boise State out rebounded the Spartans 38 to 30 and held a 25 to seven advantage in second chance points. The Broncos also dominated the paint out scoring the visitors 42 to 18 down low. Boise State is now 11-1 when winning the battle in the paint.

Harris scored 13 of her game-high 21 points in the first half as she was perfect from the floor going five-of-five from the floor and two-of-two from the 3-point line in the first period. The senior guard finished the game as one of three Broncos to score double-figure points adding a team-high nine rebounds, two assists and three steals to her stat line. Senior Rebecca Kepilino followed with a season-high 14 points and seven rebounds, while junior Melissa Rima chipped in a solid effort with 10 points, seven boards, two blocks and two steals.

The loss drops the Spartans to 4-13 overall and 0-4 in WAC action.
