Lenhardt Named Mountain West Co-Player of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (1/16/2012) - Boise State center Lauren Lenhardt and San Diego State point guard Chelsea Hopkins have earned Mountain West Women's Basketball Co-Players of the Week honors for games played from Jan. 9-15, 2012.  It is the second weekly award for Lenhardt this season and the third in her career. This is the third weekly honor of the season for Boise State, Kati Isham was last week's recipient.
Lenhardt, a 6-2 junior from Eagle, Idaho, led the Broncos to a 2-0 start in Conference play with wins over New Mexico (65-46) and Air Force (81-75).  Lenhardt averaged 26.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 52.8 percent (19-36) from the field, 83.3 percent (5-6) from three-point range and 90 percent (9-10) from the free throw line for the week.  Against the Lobos at home on Wednesday night, she scored a team-high 23 points and grabbed six rebounds.  Nine of her points came during an 18-4 run that spanned from the end of the first half into the second period, giving the Broncos control of the game with a double-digit lead that they did not relinquish.  At Air Force on Saturday afternoon, Lenhardt scored a season-high 29 points, 14 in the first half and 15 in the second.  During a late-game rally attempt by the Falcons, Lenhardt came up with seven of Boise State's final 13 points of the game to hold off Air Force.
Hopkins, a 5-8 junior transfer from Las Vegas, Nev., led the Aztecs to a 2-0 start in Conference play with wins over TCU (61-46) and UNLV (66-62 in overtime).  Hopkins averaged 14.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game while shooting 37.0 percent (10-27) from the floor and 66.7 percent (8-12) from the charity stripe.  The transfer from Duke opened Mountain West play on Wednesday with a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds against the Horned Frogs.  Her 13 rebounds are the most by an Aztec this season.  She scored 10 of her 17 points and dished out five of her team-high six assists in the second half as the Aztecs took the lead for good with 16:42 left in the game.  In her hometown on Saturday, Hopkins helped the Aztecs overcome a six-point deficit on the road for the overtime victory.  Nine of her 11 points came in the second half and overtime, including two free throws with 10 seconds left to make it a four-point game in the extra period.  She also assisted on the game-winning basket.  For the second outing in a row, Hopkins had as many individual assists as the entire opposing squad with seven.
