RENO, Nev. (1/9/2010) - Boise State University dropped its second-straight game Saturday afternoon in a disappointing 64-52 decision at the University of Nevada in Reno. Early foul trouble for Tasha Harris gave momentum to Nevada as the Bronco star was forced to sit for 12 minutes on the bench in the opening period. In the meantime, the Wolf Pack dictated the tempo and pace as the Broncos struggled to find any sort of rhythm.

After leading 5-2 four minutes into the contest, the struggles began for the Broncos as shots refused to fall for the visitors. Boise State fell behind 7-5 at the 15 minute mark and trailed by two to 10 points during most of the final 35 minutes except for one instance midway through the second period.

Boise State trailed by seven, 34-27, at half then watched as a Tahnee Robinson 3-pointer two minutes into the second half extended the Wolf Pack advantage to 10 points, 37-27.

Down 10, the Broncos then regrouped and began a rally that cumulated with 11 minutes to play in the game when Jessica Van Hoogen hit a 3-pointer to give Boise State a brief 44-43 lead. It appeared that the Broncos had seized the momentum and was about to take control of the contest when they hit a wall.

Four consecutive turnovers followed by poor shot selection swung the momentum back to Nevada as the Wolf Pack rallied with a 10-2 run to reclaim a seven point, 53-46, lead with 7:11 to play. Boise State never recovered as Nevada eventually finished the game out scoring the Broncos 21-8 in the final 10 minutes to take the 12-point victory 64-52.

The Wolf Pack dominated the glass out rebounding a usually solid Boise State team on the boards 48-30 for a 10-0 advantage in second chance points. Turnovers during the second half also doomed the Broncos. After committing just five in the first half for a seven to three Bronco advantage in points off turnovers, Boise State gave it away 11 times in the second half giving the Wolf Pack a 15 to four advantage in the final 20 minutes.

Boise State’s road woes in shooting continued as the Broncos dropped their fourth straight contest away from Taco Bell Arena. They finished the game hitting 34.5 percent (19-55) from the floor, 26.3 percent (5-19) from the arc and a poor 42.9 percent (9-21) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, Nevada countered with 37.3 percent (19-51) shooting from the hardwood, 27.3 percent (3-11) from 3-point range and 69.7 percent (23-33) from the charity stripe.

Jessica Van Hoogen led Boise State with a team-high 16 points followed by Lauren Lenhardt’s 10 points and a team-high five rebounds. Harris finished with eight points while Julia Marshall and Heather Pilcher each added five.

Kayla Williams led Nevada with a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Three other Wolf Pack players finished in double-figure points beginning with Tahnee Robinson’s team-high 15 with Shavon Moore adding 13 points and eight boards, Nicole Williams chipped in 11 points.

The loss dropped Boise State to 11-5 on the year and 0-2 in WAC play, while Nevada improves to 8-8 overall and 2-0 in league.  The Broncos have one game on its schedule for next week, a road game next Saturday at the University of Idaho.
