Broncos Roll Past College of Idaho 89-53 in Final WAC Tune-Up...
Lee sets school record for assists with 13.
BOISE, Idaho (1/2/2011) - Boise State opened the game with a 22-2 run and never looked back as the Broncos defeated the College of Idaho 89-53 in a women’s basketball game Sunday afternoon in Taco Bell Arena at Boise. Lauren Lenhardt led the team with 18 points and 13 rebounds while Diana Lee added 11 points and school-record 13 assists, first career double-doubles for both, to lead the Broncos to the 36-point win in Boise State’s final nonconference game of the year.
The Broncos seized control of the contest early opening with a dominating 22-2 run in the first five minutes of the game. Kati Isham and Lauren Lenhardt led Boise State during the stretch scoring eight points apiece.
By the eight minute mark the lead had expanded to 31 points at 39-8 as the Broncos shot over 60 percent from the floor. The largest lead of the half was 37 points, 47-10, with 5:15 remaining. However, Boise State did not score again in the period while the C of I rolled off 10 unanswered points to close within 47-20 at the break.
The Broncos finished the period shooting 49 percent (21-43) from the floor, 30 percent (3-10) from the arc and 50 percent (2-4) from the foul line. The Coyotes hit 27 percent (6-22) from the court, 14 percent (1-7) from the 3-point line and 58 percent (7-12) from the charity stripe.
Lenhardt led Boise State at the half with 16 points and eight rebounds followed by Isham’s 11 points. Dayna Drager led the Coyotes with seven points, backed up by Nicole Gall who recorded six points in the last three minutes of the half.
The second 20 minutes was sloppy in the early going as each team struggled with maintaining possession and getting shots to fall. Nicole Gall hit a 3-pointer for the C of I to open the second period pulling the Coyotes to within 24 at 47-23. That was as close as they would get in the final half.
Everyone Bronco scored in the game as they maintained a 30-plus point lead for the majority of the second half. The advantage was eventually extended it to a game-high 43 points four times in the final 10 minutes, the last came at 86-43 with 4:14 left.
Boise State dominated the College of Idaho team who was playing short handed missing a few key players. The Broncos out scored the Yotes 44 to 12 in the paint, 32 to 20 in points off turnovers and 22 to two in fast break points.
Boise State controlled the glass out rebounding C of I 42 to 30. After holding a 12 to one advantage in second chance points in the first period, the Broncos struggled keeping the shorter Coyotes off the boards in the second. The Broncos finished the game with an 18 to 16 edge in second chance points.
On the day, the Broncos finished shooting 53 percent (38-72) from the floor, 45 percent (9-20) from the arc and 57 percent (4-7) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, College of Idaho hit 33 percent (19-58) from the court, 30 percent (6-20) from long range and 64 percent (9-14) from the foul line.
Four Broncos recorded double-figure points, two had their first career double-doubles. Lenhardt led on the day with 18 points and a team-high 13 rebounds, followed by Diana Lee who added 11 points and a school-record 13 assists. Kati Isham hit a team second-best 16 points while Melissa Rima chipped in 13 points herself. Janie Bos had six points and 10 boards.
Dayna Drager led the College of Idaho with 19 points, 12 in the second half, followed by Nicole Gall with 13 and team-high five rebounds, Meghan Hughes chipped in 12 points.
Boise State closes its nonconference schedule at 9-5 overall. The Broncos will open their final trek through the Western Athletic Conference this coming week when they travel to Utah State University on Thursday and the University of Nevada on Saturday. This game was an exhibition game for the NAIA College of Idaho team and does not count towards their season record which stands at 9-7 overall.
