CHENEY, Wash. - Boise State shot 49 percent from the floor but it was not enough as the Broncos fell 81-66 at Eastern Washington Friday night in a women’s basketball game at Reese Court. Both teams shot the ball well during the contest as the Eagles hit 53 percent in the game. With the score at 46-42 in favor of EWU, the Eagles rolled off a 14-4 run to take control of the game early in the second half. The Broncos attempted to rally but could not recover from that run as they fell to 4-6 on the year with the loss.
    
The Boise State attack was balanced with four finishing with double figure points led by Miquelle Askew with 13 on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, she was in a three-way tie for the rebounding led with five. Lexie Der followed Askew with 12 points and five boards.
     
Keiahnna Engel and Kenna McDavis also hit double digits in scoring with 10 points each, it was a career high for McDavis. Brooke Pahukoa chipped in with eight points, five rebounds and team-high four assists.
      
Boise State finished the night shooting 49.1 percent (28-57) from the floor, 27.8 percent (5-18) from the 3-point arc and 62.5 percent (5-8) from the free-throw line. EWU countered at 53.2 percent (33-62) shooting, 46.2 percent (6-13) from the arc and 64.3 percent (9-14) from the charity stripe.
          
Four Eagles hit double digit scoring led by Lexie Nelson with 27 on 11-of-17 shooting with two 3-pointers, Hayley Hodgins followed with 14 points, Aubrey Ashenfelter had 12 and Laura Hughes chipped in 10.
              
The first half was a battle throughout as the teams traded mini runs starting with the Eagles opening on a 7-0 roll in the first 90 seconds. Miquelle Askew put the Broncos on the board two minutes into the period to make it 7-2, she scored Boise State’s first six points of the game. Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego and Kenna McDavis followed with a 3-pointer each as the Broncos clawed their way closer to EWU.
       
Boise State used a 9-2 run to take its first lead on a pair of Keiahnna Engel free throws to put the Broncos up 16-15. The run ended with the blue and orange up 21-17 with 9:54 to go in the half.
        
With the score tied at 27 in the first period EWU ran off a 7-0 run to go up 34-27 with just under five minutes to go, the Broncos would not regain the lead again. The Eagles held the Broncos off down the stretch to take a 38-34 lead into halftime. Both teams shot the ball well in the opening 20 minutes as EWU hit 48.6 percent and Boise State finished at 50 percent.
          
The momentum swung to the Eagles early in the second half as they rolled off a 14-4 run to take a 46-42 score out to a 60-46 advantage. The Broncos would attempt to come back pulling to within 10 with 8:55 left to make it 65-55, but never fully recovered after that initial EWU run to open the period.
