PORTLAND, Ore. - Miquelle Askew tied her career high for points with 21 to lead Boise State against Portland in a 85-71 loss to the Pilots in a women's basketball game in the Chiles Center Sunday afternoon. Boise State trailed the entire way as the Broncos struggled against Portland's height advantage. Down 17-10 Portland used a 18-4 run midway through the first half to take control of the game,  Boise State was unable to recover after that. The loss moves Boise State to 4-4 overall, while Portland goes to 5-3 with the win. 

Askew led three Broncos in double-figure scoring shooting 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from the floor, but most of her points came from the charity stripe where the third ranked player in the Mountain West Conference hit 11-of-12. The sophomore center also tied for the team high on the glass with seven rebounds. 

Freshman point guard Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego followed Askew with 15 points, 13 came in the first half, to go with three boards, two assists and one steal. Keiahnna Engel added 10 points and six rebounds before fouling out of the game with seven minutes to go. 

Brooke Pahukoa chipped in with eight points and team-high (tied) three assists. Brittney Puhakoa matched her sister's point total as she scored her first points as a Bronco. Kayla Reinhart tied for the team high in rebounds with seven to go with seven points. 

Boise State opened the game cold shooting 17.4 percent (4-23) by the 7:51 mark. Meanwhile, Portland took control of the game early powered by a 18-4 run midway through the period as the Pilots raced out to a 22 point lead at 34-12 with 7:29 to go. 

The Broncos rallied late in the first half hitting seven of their final 13 shots to cut the 22 point deficit to 13 points by halftime. Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego kept the Broncos in the game with 13 points in the opening half followed by Miquelle Askew with eight. 

The second half saw the two teams trade mini runs but Boise State was unable to get any closer than the 13 points it trailed by at the half. As in the first half, Portland's height advantage was an issue during the final period as the Broncos struggled shooting and rebounding. The Pilots finished the game out rebounding the Broncos 54-40 and owned a 38-18 advantage in points in the paint. 

Boise State finished the game shooting 29.9 percent from the floor, 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from the arc and 78.1 percent (25-of-32) from the free-throw line. Portland hit 37.7 percent from the court, 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from 3-point range and 82.4 percent (28-of-34) from the foul line. Cassandra Brown and Kari Luttinen led the Pilots with 25 points each.
