Lenhardt leads Broncos with third double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State's late rally attempt came up short Friday night as the Broncos ran out of time in a 74-63 loss to Eastern Washington in a nonconference women's basketball game in Taco Bell Arena at Boise. Down 26 points with nine minutes to go in the game, the Broncos rallied to within nine at 72-63 with less than minute left. The loss drops Boise State to 4-4 on the year with a home game against Carroll College on the slate for 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Lauren Lenhardt led the Broncos' rally attempt with her third double-double of the year on 18 points and 11 rebounds, both team highs. The senior forward scored 13 of her points in the second half as Boise State tried to fight back into the contest.

No one else reached double figures for the Broncos as three players finished with eight points each in Brandi Henton, Miquelle Askew and Laura Pelse. Askew, a freshman center, added a team second-best seven rebounds to go with her points.

Pelse played a key role in the Broncos late run scoring all of her points and grabbing three rebounds in the final 11 minutes of the contest. The junior from Latvia hit everything she attempted going three-for-three from the floor and two-for-two from the free-throw line.

On the night Boise State shot 35.6 percent (21-59) from the floor, but shot 50 percent (12-24) in the second period. The Broncos hit 25 percent (4-16) from beyond the arc and a decent 77.3 percent (17-22) from the charity stripe during the game.

Four Eagles hit double-figure points led by Lexie Nelson with 20 points and five rebounds. Carrie Ojeda added a double-double on 10 points and 11 boards, while Aubrey Ashenfelter scored a team second-best 16 points. Eastern Washington shot 45.3 percent (29-64) from the floor, 42.9 percent (9-21) from the arc and 77.8 percent (7-9) from the free-throw line.

The first half was one where everything went EWU's way and nothing went right for the Broncos as they trailed by 21 at the half, 45-24. The story of the period was the shooting percentages of the two teams. The Eagles were on fire from the 3-point line in the half hitting seven-of-12 (58.3 pct.) and finish the half shooting 58.1 percent (18-31) from the floor. Meanwhile, Boise State shot 25.7 percent (9-35) from the floor, 10 percent (1-10) from the arc and 62.5 percent (5-8) from the charity stripe.

The second period saw the Eagles take a game-high 26 point, 68-42, lead with just over nine minutes to play. Boise State's defense picked up its pressure and the team lifted its intensity as the Broncos started their rally attempt. Over the next nine minutes Boise State outscored EWU 21-6 as the blue and orange clawed its way to within nine points at 72-63 with 46 seconds left. Unfortunately for the Broncos, the hole was to big to recover from as they ran out of time.
