ANCHORAGE, Alaska  - Boise State's opener at the GCI Great Alaska Shootout was not what the Broncos were hoping for as they fell 68-50 to Long Beach State Tuesday night in Anchorage. After a tight first half ending at 31-29 Long Beach State, the 49ers used a 15-3 run early in the final period to take control with a double-digit lead. Boise State attempted to rally but came up short down the stretch.

"I thought it was a really good game for the first 25 minutes or so, before Long Beach took over," said coach Gordy Presnell. "I thought their defensive pressure and tenacity really affected us. We turned the ball over and over, you can't do that against a good team.  I thought two real keys for us in this loss was that we were not aggressive enough to go to the free-throw line and we turned the ball over way to much. Credit Long Beach State they are a real good team and played well today."

Deanna Weaver led the Broncos with 10 points and six rebounds, both team highs in 26 minutes of action. Camille Redmon followed with eight points while matching Weaver's rebound total of six.

Keiahnna Engel playing in front of her hometown finished with seven points, four boards, two assists, one block and team-high three steals in her first start of the season.

Kenna McDavis came in off the bench to record seven points, she also had five rebounds. Brooke Pahukoa and Miquelle Askew each finished with four points.

Boise State shot 35 percent (18-of-52) from the floor, 33 percent (6-of-18) from the arc and 57 percent (8-of-14) from the free-throw line.  Long Beach State shot 48 percent (26-of-54) from the floor, 43 percent (3-of-7) from the arc and 52 percent (13-of-25) from the free-throw line. Both teams had 34 rebounds, while the Broncos committed more turnovers than the 49ers 24-18.

Anna Kim led Long Beach State with 13 points followed by Raven Benton with 12.

Boise State fell to 2-2 on the year and will now play Yale at 4:30 p.m. (Mountain) Wednesday.
