BOISE, Idaho - Brooke Pahukoa and Miquelle Askew combined for 47 points to lead Boise State past the College of Idaho 92-56 in a women’s basketball game Wednesday night in Taco Bell Arena. Boise State opened the game on a 25-3 run and never looked back as the Broncos ran past the Coyotes to record their second victory of the season improving to 2-2 overall. Pahukoa and Askew both scored career highs in points with 26 and 21, respectively, followed by Yaiza Rodriguez with 11.

“I was really excited about the way the team played tonight especially our freshmen Brooke (Pahukoa) and Jie (Yaiza Rodriguez),” said head coach Gordy Presnell. “We have people that can score on this team and I was happy to see Brooke and Miquelle (Askew) score the way they did. Brooke is a tremendous athlete and she found her rhythm in this game. Now we have to get ready for South Dakota on Sunday.”

Brooke Pahukoa shot 9-of-14 from the floor, 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line to score her career-best 26 points, in addition she added a career-high six assists to go with one block and two steals in 26 minutes.

Askew went 8-of-15 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe to record her 21 points, she also had four rebounds, one assist and one block. Rodriguez added 11 points, four rebounds, six assists and two steals. Kenna McDavis chipped in nine points and team-high eight boards, both career highs, while Kayla Reinhart contributed eight points and five rebounds.

Boise State finished the night shooting 49.3 percent from the floor, 44.4 percent (8-18) from the arc and 76.9 percent (10-13) from the foul line. The blue and orange held a slim advantage on the glass 44 to 41. The Broncos dominated the paint 56-24, points off turnovers 32-2 and bench points 25-8.

The College of Idaho was led by Chakala Carthen with 19 points, followed by Dayna Drager and Erica Martinez with 10 each. The Coyotes shot 33.9 percent from the court, 25 percent (5-20) from the arc and 50 percent (11-22) from the free-throw line.

The Broncos opened the contest in commanding fashion on a 10-0 run before stretching it out to 25-3 by the 11:22 mark of the first half. Boise State led by as many as 38 points, 52-14, with 18 seconds left in the period powered by 15 Pahukoa points and a team shooting percentage of 51 percent. The Broncos ended the opening 20 minutes up 52-16.

The second half saw the Coyotes come out fired up as they rolled off a 21-7 run to pull within 22 points, 59-37, with 13:36 remaining. That was as close as the C of I would get in the final period as the Broncos regrouped and eventually took a game high 40-point lead, 85-45, with 3:05 to go.
