LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Keiahnna Engel tied her career-high for points with 14 to lead Boise State during its 98-68 road loss at New Mexico State Thursday night in the Pan American Center at Las Cruces, N.M. The Broncos never led in the contest but kept it close until midway through the second period when the Aggies seized control with a 12-2 run to take a 20-point lead and never looked back. The loss drops Boise State to 1-2 on the year, while NMSU goes to 1-1.

Engel finished with a team-high point total slashing into the key for 10 of her 14 points, she also added six rebounds. Askew followed with 10 points and team-best nine rebounds. Lexie Der and Kayla Reinhart added nine points each, followed by Yaiza Rodriguez and Brandi Henton with seven each.

Boise State trailed by as many as 10 points, 35-25, in the first period with 2:47 left in the period. The opening 20 minutes saw the Aggies make little runs, then watched Boise State respond with one its own to close the gap.

The blue and orange had a chance to tie the score at 25 in the first half but came up short. The Broncos then watched as the Aggies nail a 3-pointer on the other end to snap Boise State’s momentum. The Broncos went into the break down eight points, 41-33.

The Aggies took control of the game midway through the second period. With the Broncos down 58-48 at the 10:34 mark, NMSU rolled off a 12-2 run to take a 20-point, 70-50, lead. Boise State was unable to recover after that run as the home side pushed the tempo and got hot from long range. NMSU put the game away from the 3-point line hitting eight in the second half as they went up by as many as 32 points late in the contest.

Boise State finished the night shooting 34.4 percent (22-64) from the floor, 16.7 percent (3-18) from beyond the arc and 75 percent (21-28) from the free -throw line. New Mexico State countered by shooting 52.6 percent (30-57) from the free-throw line, 42.9 percent (12-28) from the arc and 74.3 percent (26-35) from the foul line.
