Boise State Opens with 80-63 Win at Utah Valley
Lenhardt leads Broncos with double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds.

OREM, Utah - Lauren Lenhardt and Brandi Henton combined for 36 points to lead Boise State to a season opening 80-63 victory on the road at Utah Valley in Orem, Utah. Down two points at 11-9 Boise State used a 18-1 run to seize control of the game up 15-points at 27-12.  Lenhardt led the team with her sixth career double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Henton lit the Wolverines up from downtown hitting five 3-pointers to finish with 17 points. The Broncos move to 1-0 on the year with a home game against North Dakota State next on their schedule Tuesday night.

Boise State's opening game performance was impressive against Utah Valley as they controlled the tempo and momentum most of the night. Lenhardt went 8-12 from the floor with one 3-pointer to go with two free throws 12 rebounds, three blocks and 1 steal in 26 minutes. Two other Broncos reached double figure points as well with Henton getting 17 to go with three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in her debut game for Boise State. Erica Martinez also had a solid debut contest recording 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and one block.

The Broncos finished the night shooting 47 percent from the floor, 38.5 percent (10-26) from beyond the 3-point arc and 85.7 percent (6-7) from the charity stripe. Boise State out rebounded UVU 47 to 40 on the night.

The first half went back and forth initially before the Broncos caught fire. Down two at 11-9, Boise State rolled off an 18-1 run to take control with a 27-12 lead, the largest advantage of the period at 15 points. Boise State then held the Wolverines off by shooting 51 percent in the first half while holding UVU to 33 percent.

Brandi Henton and Lauren Lenhardt combined for 25 points in the opening 20 minutes with 14 and 11 respectively. Henton went four-of-seven from the 3-point line.

Boise State opened the second period slow hitting one of its first eight shots as UVU pulled to within five points at 45-40. The Broncos responded with a 12-0 run to put an end to the Wolverines hopes as UVU never closed to within single digits again. Boise State ran out to a game-high 21 point lead, 72-51, with 6:01 remaining.

Utah Valley finished shooting 34.3 percent on the night, 5.9 percent (1-17) from the arc and 61.5 percent (16-26) from the free throw line. They had three players in double figure points led by Sammie Jensen with a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds, followed by Alle Cardwell with 12 points and Whitney Jenkins with 10.
