BOISE, Idaho - Boise State ran past Air Force 75-44 Friday night in the regular-season finale at Taco Bell Arena in Boise. Boise State used a 15-0 run midway through the first half to take control of the game as the Broncos stretched a three point lead out to 18-points and never looked back. Air Force’s 44 points are the fewest allowed by Boise State in the Mountain West era and the fewest since holding San Jose State to 45 on Feb. 27, 2009.

With the victory Boise State finished the regular season at 17-12 overall and 12-6 in Mountain West play, that win combined with Nevada’s loss at UNLV means the Broncos finish tied for third place with Nevada in the final standings.

Miquelle Askew led the Broncos with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor to go with a team-high (tied) seven rebounds. Keiahnna Engel followed close behind with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting with two 3-pointers.

Freshman Brittney Pahukoa recorded a career-high 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting with one 3-pointer. She added two rebounds, one assist, as well as a team and career-high three steals. Brooke Pahukoa was next with nine points and six rebounds, Deanna Weaver added eight points and tied Askew for rebounding honors with seven.

Boise State shot 38.6 percent (27-of-70) as a team from the floor, 22.2 percent (6-of-27) from the arc and 83.3 percent (15-of-18) from the free-throw line. The Broncos grabbed a season-high 50 rebounds and held Air Force to 34.

The Falcons hit 24.5 percent (13-of-53) from the floor, 13.6 percent (3-of-22) from the arc and 83.3 percent (15-of-18) from the charity stripe. Lindsey Lewis was the only Air Force player to reach double-digit points with 15 to go with a team-best six rebounds. Madeleine Philpot added nine points and five boards, while Camille Thompson chipped in eight points.

The first half started sluggish for both teams as neither could get shots to fall. However, Boise State slowly asserted itself using its height advantage to go on a 15-0 run to stretch a 17-14 lead with 8:39 on the clock out to 32-14 with 1:24 remaining. Boise State ended the first 20 minutes up 18 points at 34-16 after holding the Falcons to two points in the last 8:40 of the first half.

The second half saw the Broncos stay in complete control as the Blue and Orange maintained a 20-plus point lead nearly the entire time. Boise State stretched its advantage out to a game-high 36 points at 75-39 with 1:09 remaining.

Next up for the Broncos is the 2014 Mountain West Reese’s Women’s Basketball Championship in Las Vegas, Nev., starting on Monday (March 10) in the Thomas & Mack Center at UNLV. Boise State earned a first round bye and will play the Wyoming Cowgirls (19-10, 10-8 MW) in the four versus five seed game on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. (Mountain).
