Boise State WBB Plays Hard But Falls at Wyoming
Lenhardt leads team with 19 points and eight rebounds.

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The outmanned Boise State women's basketball team battled to the end but came up short in a 77-60 loss at Wyoming in a Mountain West contest at Laramie, Wyo.  Lauren Lenhardt led the Broncos while fighting double teams the entire way to score 19 points on a day that the team was limited to eight players because of injuries. Boise State rallied from 17 down in the first half to make it a 39-31 game at the break, only to see Wyoming regain control in the second period to defeat the Broncos. With the loss the blue and orange falls to 10-12 overall and 3-6 in conference play, Wyoming improved to a league-best 18-4 on the year and 7-2 in the MW.

Boise State played without the services of starting point guard Diana Lee and Julia Marshall who were out with injuries. Meanwhile, Lenhardt led Boise State with her 17th game of the year in double-figure points finishing with a team-high 19 to go with a team-high eight rebounds. The senior post shot eight-of-13 from the floor with one 3-pointer and went two-of-three from the free-throw line.

Brandi Henton followed with 15 points, her ninth game in double-figures, going seven-of-16 from the floor with one 3-pointer. Erica Martinez was next with 11 points powered by three 3-pointers as she continues to be one of the top shooters from beyond the arc in the league.

Boise State finished shooting 43.6 percent (24-55) from the floor, 38.5 percent (5-13) from the arc and 58.3 percent (7-12) from the free-throw line. It was the second-best field goal shooting performance of the conference season for the Broncos. Wyoming countered hitting 50 percent (29-58) from the floor, 36.4 percent (4-11) from beyond the 3-point line and 60 percent (15-25) from the charity stripe.

The Cowgirls had four players in double-figure points led by Chaundra Sewell with 21 and 13 rebounds, followed by Ashley Sickles with 14 points, Kayla Woodward with 13 and Alison Gorrell with 11.

The first half was a battle early on with the Broncos leading for the first five minutes up 11-9 when Wyoming tied the game at 11 with 15:14 left. The last lead the Broncos held in the game was at 16-15 when Henton hit a jumper with 13:15 showing on the clock.

Wyoming took control of the scoreboard after that. With the game tied at 20 following a short Lenhardt jumper with 9:37 to go, the Cowgirls surged rolling off a 17-0 run, eventually stretching it to 19-2 for a 39-22 advantage with 3:46 remaining until half.

Following a brief rest, Lauren Lenhardt re-entered the game to spark a Broncos rally with six points in a 9-0 Boise State run to close the period down eight points, 39-31, at the break.

The Broncos closed to within seven points twice early in the second half, the last came with 13:48 to play and the score 53-46, before they began to tire and the Cowgirls took over. The Cowgirls used a 10-0 run to seize control with a 63-46 lead, the first of their six 17-point advantages in the half, with 8:49 to go in the contest.

Wyoming pushed the game inside as the Cowgirls scored 24 of their 39 points in the paint as they slowly regained their 17 point advantage lost in the first period. The closest the Broncos would get after that was 13 points when Martinez hit the final of her three 3-pointers in the game to make the score 71-58 with 1:39 to play.

Next up for Boise State is a much needed slow week with one game on the slate, a Saturday afternoon home game against New Mexico at 2 p.m. in Taco Bell Arena.
