Boise State Falls at Home to San Diego State
BOISE, Idaho - Boise State watched San Diego State take control in the second half to break the game open in a 64-40 Bronco loss at home to the Mountain West leading Aztecs Wednesday night.  Boise State trailed by eight points at the half only to see San Diego State come out of the break with a 10-1 run to put the game away as the Broncos could not recover after that. Brandi Henton scored 11 points to lead the Broncos followed by Miquelle Askew with 10. The loss drops Boise State to 10-11 on the year and 3-5 in MW play, while SDSU improved to 16-5 overall and 7-1 in conference.

Henton kept the Broncos in the game during the first half scoring 10 of her 11 points before the break, but was held to one in the final period. Askew scored 10 of Boise State's last 12 points in the final six and half minutes to finish with her sixth game in double figures. She finished the night four-of-six from the floor with two free throws.

Lauren Lenhardt was held to five points as she faced double teams every time she touched the ball. Erica Martinez continues to be hot from beyond the arc hitting two of three attempts to finish with six points.

On the night Boise State shot 29.6 percent (16-54) from the floor, 33.3 percent (4-12) from the 3-point line and 50 percent (5-10) from the free-throw line. SDSU countered at 49 percent (28-57) shooting from the court, 28.6 percent (4-14) from the arc and 66.7 percent (4-6) from the charity stripe.

The Aztecs were led by Erimma Amerikwa with 14 points followed by Chelsea Hopkins with 13 points, six rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Courtney Clements also reached doubled-figure scoring with 12 on the night.

The opening 20 minutes was sloppy for both teams as they combined for 20 turnovers, 10 by each team. Unfortunately, the Aztecs converted Bronco  miscues into a 13-3 advantage in points off turnovers by the end of the period, leading to 10 fastbreak points for SDSU.

The first half was tight most of the way with San Diego State leading by as many as eight points on two occasions, the last came at the break when Courtney Clements drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Aztecs a 29-21 lead. Boise State's largest lead was three points early on when Henton scored the Broncos first eight points of the game including giving her team a 5-2 advantage two minutes into the contest.

San Diego State seize control of the game coming out of halftime as the Aztecs ran off a 10-1 to take a 17-point 39-22 lead. Boise State never recovered after that  initial run as SDSU stretched its lead out to 28 points late in the contest.

Boise State will now open the second half of MW play on the road this Saturday when they travel to Laramie, Wyo., to face the Wyoming Cowgirls at 2 p.m. (Mountain) in Arena Auditorium.
