Boise State's Women's Basketball Falls at New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Boise State women's basketball team lost a tough one 58-53 on the road at New Mexico Wednesday night in Albuquerque. After leading 30-24 at the half, Boise State struggled in the second period as the Broncos watched the Lobos rally for the win in front of 5,935 UNM fans in The Pit. Lauren Lenhardt led the Broncos with 13 points followed by Brandi Henton with 12 as Boise State fell to 8-7 on the year and 1-1 in Mountain West play, New Mexico improved to 9-7 and 1-2 in league. Next up for the Broncos is a home game this Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against the Air Force Falcons.   

Lenhardt battled double teams and physical play all night to lead the Broncos in scoring with 13 points to go with two rebounds, one block and one assist. Henton was held to one basket in the second half after she sparked Boise State in the first 20 minutes with 10 of her 12 points. Erica Martinez hit three 3-pointers during the game to finished the contest three-of-nine from the arc for nine points.

Boise State finished the night shooting 30.6 percent (19-62) from the floor, 25 percent (6-24) from beyond the arc and 81.8 percent (9-11) from the free-throw line. The Broncos shot 22.6 percent in the second half. Boise State was out rebounded in the game but held a eight to four edge in second chance points.

New Mexico finished hitting 48.9 percent (22-45) from the floor, 40 percent (4-10) from the 3-point arc, and 55.6 percent (10-18) from the free-throw line. Caroline Durbin led the Lobos with 16 points and five rebounds, followed by Whitney Johnson with 14 points and Bryce Owens with 11.

Boise State opened the game solid taking the lead early then holding onto it for the majority the period. It was not easy for either team as the open shot was rare and infrequent. Tied at 11 with 11:47 to go, Boise State took the lead for good in the period on a short Miquelle Askew jumper with 11:30 to go with the Broncos up 13-11.

The Broncos would take a 13 point advantage at 28-15 with 3:42 to play before settling for a 30-24 halftime lead. Henton led the team at half with 10 points followed by Lenhardt with nine.

In the second half New Mexico bumped up the pressure on Henton and Lenhardt as they were held to a combined six points in the period. Boise State clung to the lead early on before the Lobos rallied to take control for good with 10:26 to play up 40-39 on a Johnson layup.

The game remained a one to three point game most of the way down the stretch before the Lobos took their game high lead of eight points with 3:48 left. Boise State pulled to within three on three different occasions after that but could get no closer, the last came with one second remaining and UNM up 56-53.
