FIVE BOISE STATE WRESTLERS EARN SEEDS AT SOUTHERN SCUFFLE

            BOISE, Idaho Five Boise State University wrestlers have been seeded for this weekend’s (Dec. 29 and 30) Southern Scuffle being held at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.

            Tyler Sherfey, Adam Hall, Kurt Swartz, Levi Jones and Nick Smith were seeded in the top eight of their respective weight classes. 

            Sherfey received the highest seed at No. 4 in the 157-pound weight class with a season record of 11-4.  The junior from Kennewick, Wash., has placed in three tournaments this season including a first place finish at the Best of the West Open in Central Point, Ore., on Nov. 17.

            Hall and Swartz are seeded sixth in their respective weight classes of 149 and 165 pounds.  A freshman from Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Hall has a record of 11-3 this season and has a first place finish at the Best of the West Open, and runner-up finish at the Cowboy Open in Laramie, Wyo., on Nov. 10. 

            Swartz is a freshman from Auburn, Wash., and is 10-4 this season.  He also has a first and second place finish at the Best of the West and Cowboy Open, respectively.

            The No. 7 seed is where Jones and Smith will start the two-day tournament.  A sophomore from Nine Mile Falls, Wash., Jones is 6-5 this season in the 141-pound weight class.  Smith, a junior from Boise, Idaho, has a 6-3 record in the heavyweight division this season.

            In the most recent USA Today / Intermat / NWCA rankings, Sherfey, Jones and Hall are ranked in the top 20 of their respective weight classes.  Sherfey is 12th, Jones 17th and Hall 18th.
