BOISE, Idaho The Boise State University wrestling team will compete in its third tournament of the season this Friday and Saturday (Dec. 1 and 2) at the annual Las Vegas Invitational.

Some of the top teams in the country will be joining the Broncos in this important early season tournament.  Those teams, along with their ranking in this week’s USA Today/Intermat/NWCA poll, include No. 2 Missouri, No. 5 Hofstra, No. 8 Michigan, Nov. 11 Cornell, No. 13 Ohio State, No. 15 Penn, No. 18 Nebraska, No. 20 Cal Poly, No. 21 Pittsburgh, No. 22 West Virginia and No. Harvard.

While Boise State is not ranked as a team, two of its wrestlers are in their respective weight classes.  Tyler Sherfey is 12th in the 157-pound weight class while Andy Patrick is 14th at heavyweight.

Sherfey missed Boise State’s opening season tournament in Wyoming at the Cowboy Open (Nov. 11) before coming back a week later to take second place at the Best of the West Tournament in Central Point, Ore. (Nov. 18).

Patrick won his weight class at the Best of the West Tournament after placing third at heavyweight at the Cowboy Open.

Both Sherfey and Patrick are sophomores and qualified for last year’s NCAA National Championships.

Another Bronco to watch this weekend is Luke Smith at 165 pounds.  Smith red-shirted last year and is off to a good start to the 2006-07 season winning his weight class in Oregon two weeks ago, and placing third in Wyoming.

The Broncos will host their first home match of the season on Dec. 14 (Thursday) against Pac-10 Conference opponent Cal State Bakersfield.  The match starts at 7:00 p.m. (MT) in Bronco Gym.
