Wrestling Heads to Cliff Keen Invitational

LAS VEGAS - Boise State wrestling will look to get back on track this weekend when it heads to the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, Friday, Nov. 30 - Saturday, Dec. 1. The first and second rounds of the tournament will be held during the morning session, Friday at 9 a.m., followed by the quarterfinals which will take place during the 6 p.m. session. Semifinal bouts will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday followed by finals at 3 p.m.

IN THE RANKINGS: The Broncos feature three wrestlers ranked in the Amateur Wrestling News Division I College Rankings. Those four are No. 16 Brian Owen (133), No. 4 Jason Chamberlain (149) and No. 11 Jake Swartz (184).

IN THE LINEUP: Boise State will be represented by Rami Haddadin (125), Brian Owen (133), Travis Himmelman (141), Jason Chamberlain (149), George Ivanov (157), Holden Packard (165), Scott Bacon (174), Jake Swartz (184), Cody Dixon (197) snd J.T. Felix (285).

SCOUTING THE FIELD: The invitational will feature nine teams ranked in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Coaches' poll. No. 5 Ohio State, No. 7 Missouri, No. 8 Cornell, No. 9 Nebraska, No. 14 Michigan, No. 15 Oregon State, No. 17 Virginia, No. 19 Wyoming and No. 23 Kent State will each be there. Those teams harbor three-top ranked wrestlers in their lineup with Ohio State's Logan Steiber at 133 pounds, Cornell's Kyle Dake at 165 Pounds and Kent State's Dustin Kilgore at 197 pounds.

STIFF COMPETITION: All four of Boise State's dual matches this season have been against teams who were ranked in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Top 25 at some point this season. Wyoming (No. 19), Minnesota (No. 1) and Oregon State (No. 15) are each still in the rankings while North Dakota State is currently receiving votes.

FAMILIAR FOES: Senior George Ivanov defeated No. 9 RJ Pena 11-5, in last week's dual. The meeting was pair's sixth since the beginning of last season. Ivanov holds a 4-2 record against Pena all-time but was ousted by his rival from the 2012 Pac-12 Tournament.

COWBOY UP: Jake Swartz will be aiming for his second tournament title of the season after winning his division of the Cowboy Open. Swartz is currently 7-1 this season and 3-0 in tournament competition.

ABOUT THE BRONCOS: The Boise State roster is up to 33 student-athletes this season, with 12 newcomers on the team. Despite over a third of the lineup being new, The Broncos return all 10 starters from last season after losing only two graduating seniors. Among those returners are 2012 NCAA Tournament participants Brian Owen (133), George Ivanov (157), Jake Swartz (184) and Brent Chriswell (197). The broncos will also have NCAA All-American Jason Chamberlain (149) returning to action after redshirting last season.

CHAMBERLAIN'S TRAVELS: Redshirt senior Jason Chamberlain has had a busy summer. His journey to the World University Games in Finland started in Akron, Ohio, where he was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the World University Championships. The performance set him up for a finals appearance at the World University Team Trials, where he defeated defending NCAA Champion Frank Molinaro to earn a spot on the American roster. In Finland, Chamberlaind suffered a first round defeat to Russian Roland Ondar.
