Boise State Tops Northern Colorado 25-9

BOISE, Idaho - The No. 2 ranked (InterMat) Boise State wrestling team improved its season record to 2-0-1 (0-0-1 Pacific-10 Conference), Friday (Nov. 19) night, as the Broncos cruised to a 25-9 win over Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.

Boise State jumped out to a 14-0 lead against the Bears and never looked back; winning seven of 10 matches, including one by technical fall and one by major decision.

Boise State earned its first win of the night at 125 pounds as Alan Bartelli beat Sam Bauer by 4-0 decision to give the Broncos a 3-0 lead in the dual. Stefan St. Marie would extend the Boise State lead next at 133 pounds with a fall against Michael Balagna at the 6:33 mark.

Levi Jones pushed the team score to 11-0 with a win at 141 pounds, beating Casey Cruz in a 4-3 decision. Eli Hutchison would score the next Boise State win of the night at 149 pounds with an 8-1 decision against Jacob Milewski.

After dropping their first match of the night at 157 pounds, the Broncos struck again at 165 and 174 pounds to give Boise State a 21-3 lead. Michael Cuthbertson earned a 7-2 decision over Brandon Kammerzell at 165, before Jake Swartz beat Patrick Prentice by 13-3 major decision at 174.

Northern Colorado would narrow the team score to 21-9 with wins at 184 and 197 before the Broncos secured their final win of the night at heavyweight. Toby Erickson beat Konner Knudtsen by 6-2 decision in the last match of the dual to extend the final team score to 25-9.

Friday marked the final dual of the fall for Boise State, as the Broncos will not compete as a team again until Jan. 8-9 when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the National Duals. Boise State is in action throughout the rest of the weekend however, starting tomorrow at the Old Chicago UNC Open in Greeley, Colo. Andrew Hochstrasser and Adam Hall will then represent the Broncos at the NWCA All-Star Classic in Fresno, Calif. on Sunday (Nov. 21).
