CENTRAL POINT, Oregon Boise State University wrestlers Adam Hall, Tyler Sherfey and Kurt Swartz each posted first places, while four other Broncos came away with runner-up finishes, at last Saturday’s (Nov. 17) Best of the West Tournament.
Hall, a freshman from Bonners Ferry, Idaho, won the 149-pound weight class with a 9-8 decision over Seth Roy who was competing unattached for Southern Oregon University.
Two-time NCAA national qualifier Tyler Sherfey won the 157-pound weight division with a 15-0 technical fall over Dan Brascetta who was wrestling unattached for Oregon State University. Sherfey is a junior from Kennewick, Washington.
A freshman from Auburn, Washington, Swartz defeated Jon Brascetta in the finals of the 165-pound weight class. Swartz handed Brascetta, who was competing unattached for Oregon State, 5-2 decision.
Placing second at the daylong tournament for Boise State were Alan Bartelli, Cory Fish, Levi Jones and Nick Smith.
Bartelli was second at 125 pound when he lost to Curtis Schurkamp from San Francisco State (unattached), 10-5. Fish was runner-up at 133 pounds when teammate Andrew Hochstrasser, wrestling unattached for the Broncos recorded a 2-1 decision. Jones finished second at 133 pounds when unattached wrestler Heinrich Barnes recorded a 13-12 decision. Heavyweight Nick Smith was the fourth Bronco to finish second losing to Marcus Moore of Southern Oregon 8-3 decision.
The Broncos have a two-week break from competition before they travel to Las Vegas for the annual Cliff Keen Invitational, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 (Friday and Saturday).
