Nov. 14, 2016

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State wrestling head coach Mike Mendoza announced the signings of Anthony Capul (Andale, Kan.), Dante Springsteen (Graham, Wash.) and Kevin Vough (Elyria, Ohio) to National Letters of Intent Monday, his first signing class at the helm of the Broncos’ program.

Vough is the nation’s 15th-ranked wrestler overall according to InterMat, and is the fourth-ranked heavyweight. Capul is slated to compete at 197 pounds for the Broncos, while Spingsteen was brought in to wrestle at 165.

“We’ve got a great group of guys right now, and really, a good culture,” Mendoza said. “With the new guys coming in with this first recruiting class, I think it’s important that we bring in the right guys that will really help establish the culture. It’s important to bring in high-character guys, and bring in guys that are academically focused and will be focused in the wrestling room.”

Capul, currently a senior at Andale High School, captured a state championship at 195 this past season while also garnering All-America honors at Folkstyle Nationals. He ranked in FloWrestling’s top 20 earlier this year, but dropped out of the rankings after opting not to compete at the Junior Freestyle National Championships. Also a standout on the gridiron, Capul was all-state in football as both a freshman and sophomore.

Springsteen, competing in his senior year at Bethel High School, has compiled a record of 112-23 during his first three prep seasons. He finished runner-up at the WIAA State Championships this past season, while winning titles at both Tri-State and Gutcheck. He was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the 38th Annual Mat Classic as a sophomore, the same year he finished sixth at the NHSCA High School Championships. Also a three-year letterwinner in both football and track and field, Springsteen is a member of his school’s academic honor roll.

Vough, who boasts a 4.2 prep grade-point average, finished runner-up at the Junior Nationals in 2015 (freestyle), the same year he also captured a state championship. A three-time state placer, he won Flo Nationals in 2014 and finished third in 2015, captured a Cadet Greco-Roman national title in 2014, and won both styles at the 2015 Cadet Nationals.
