BRONCO WRESTLERS OPEN SEASON AT COWBOY OPEN WITH ONE FIRST PLACE, AND FOUR RUNNER-UP FINISHES

                LARAIME, Wyo. Boise State University opened its 2007-08 wrestling season on Saturday (Nov. 10) with one first place, and four runner-up finishes, at the annual Cowboy Open.

                Alan Bartelli brought home the only first place finish when the true freshman from Wasilla, Alaska won the 125-pound weight class in the amateur division.  Bartelli won five matches, including a 2-1 decision over Chad Lousberg of the Colorado School of Mines in the finals.

                Cory Fish, Adam Hall and Kurt Swartz each came away with a second place finish in their respective weight class of the elite division.    

Fish forfeited the title bout at 133 pounds, Hall lost to nationally ranked Jordan Burroughs from the University of Nebraska, 13-7 in the championship match at 149 pounds, and Swartz lost to another nationally ranked Cornhusker wrestler, Stephen Dwyer, 4-1 in the finals at 165 pounds.

Chris Givens, another true freshman on the team from Chino Hills, Calif., finished second in the 197-pound weight class in the amateur division when he lost to Breenen Kneer of the Colorado School of Mines, 3-0.

Boise State also had two other top four finishers on Saturday.  Josh Baker finished third at 125 pounds of the amateur division, and Tyler Sherfey was third at 157 pounds in the elite division.
