Season Starts with Cowboy Open
Nov. 4, 2016

BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State wrestling team will open its 2016-17 season Saturday (Nov. 5) at the Cowboy Open in Laramie, Wyo. The 39th edition of the event is set to begin at 9 a.m., in War Memorial Fieldhouse.

Boise State, in its debut season under head coach Mike Mendoza, will be one of 25 teams competing at the Cowboy Open. In all, the field will comprise more than 450 wrestlers.

Live scoring and video for the tournament will be available at FloWrestling.

The 2016-17 season marks the first year of the Mike Mendoza era at Boise State. Mendoza, just the third Boise State wrestling head coach in the last 44 years, spent the previous six seasons as head coach at his alma mater, CSU Bakersfield. He took over the Roadrunners' program in 2010-11 after spending eight years (2002-10) as the head assistant coach for the Roadrunners. Mendoza guided a program that went 3-7 in his debut season to the top 25 of the USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association Division I Coaches Poll in 2015-16, the school's first ranking in 15 years.
