Broncos Open Season Saturday

BOISE, Idaho - The long wait is finally over for the Boise State wrestling team's highly anticipated 2010-11 season, as the No. 2 nationally ranked Broncos travel to Spokane, Wash. this Saturday (Nov. 6) to meet North Idaho College in their first dual of the fall.

Boise State will square off against the Cardinals at 6 p.m. (PST) at Mead High School in Spokane, Wash.

Washington natives returning home...

The Broncos projected starting lineup for Saturday includes a group of wrestlers that will be returning home to the state of Washington. Levi Jones (141 pounds), Jake Swartz (174) and Derek Toney (197) are all expected to compete for Boise State against NIC. Jones is a Nine Mile Falls, Wash. (Lakeside HS) native, while Swartz is from Auburn, Wash. (Auburn HS) and Toney is from Reardan, Wash. (Reardan HS). Rounding out this weekend's projected lineup for the Broncos is Alan Bartelli (125), Andrew Hochstrasser (133), Jason Chamberlain (149), Adam Hall (157), Michael Cuthbertson (165), Kirk Smith or John Fackrell (184) and Toby Erickson (285).

 Boise State opens season ranked No. 2...

Although Boise State has yet to compete in a dual this season the Broncos are already receiving an incredible amount of national recognition. Boise State enters the fall preseason ranked No. 2 nationally by intermatwrestle.com, Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine, and in the NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll. The Broncos trail only Cornell in all three polls.

Individually, Boise State also enjoyed a great deal of individual recognition in the preseason InterMat rankings as five Broncos were honored; including three starting the fall No. 1 for their respective weight class. Hochstrasser, Hall and Smith all enter the season as the top ranked wrestler for their respective weight class, while Chamberlain was voted No. 4 and Jones ranked No. 12.

Broncos sending three to All-Star Classic...

Boise State will get the opportunity to be represented on the national stage early on this season as three Broncos have received invitations to compete in the 45th annual NWCA All-Star Classic presented by The Marines. The All-Star Classic is a 10 match event that pits some of the top collegiate wrestlers in each weight class head-to-head.

Hochstrasser, Hall and Smith will be just the sixth, seventh and eighth Boise State wrestlers to compete in the event after accepting invitations recently. Hochstrasser will meet Jordan Oliver of Oklahoma State, who opens the season ranked No. 1 by W.I.N. Hall will face No. 4 Bubba Jenkins (Arizona State), while Smith is slated to wrestle No. 2 Joe LeBlanc (Wyoming). The Broncos join Oklahoma State as the only two schools with three wrestlers competing in this year's Classic.

The 2010 All-Star Classic will be held at Selland Arena in Fresno, Calif. on Nov. 21 (Sunday).

Boise State to host Oregon State Nov. 13...

Wrestling fans will get their first chance to catch Boise State in action on Nov. 13 (Saturday) when the Broncos return home to host Pac-10 Conference rival Oregon State at Taco Bell Arena. The dual is scheduled to start at 9 p.m.
