Wrestling Opens 2013-14 Season

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State wrestling team will hit the mats for the first time in 2012-13, traveling to a pair of events to open the season.

THE ALL-STAR CLASSIC
Redshirt senior Jake Swartz will compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic Saturday (Nov. 2), at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. Ranked fifth-nationally at 184 pounds by InterMat, Swartz will square off against third-ranked Jimmy Sheptock of Maryland in a rematch of the second round of the 2013 NCAA Championships, which Sheptock won 3-2.

The main event is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. (MT), and Flowrestling will provide a live webcast of the event HERE. Registration is required.

Swartz, a two-time defending Pac-12 champion, is a three-time qualifier to the NCAA Championships. He went 33-5 last season, and enters 2013-14 with a career record of 74-27.

THE COWBOY OPEN
The Broncos will send 15 wrestlers to the Cowboy Open in Laramie, Wyo., scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (MT) on 10 mats in War Memorial Fieldhouse. One of the largest tournaments in the West, the Cowboy Open will feature more than 400 wrestlers and 20 teams.

No team scores will be kept, but champions will be crowned at 10 weight classes in both elite and amateur brackets.

This year marks the 36th edition of the Cowboy Open since its inception in 1974, and the 23rd-straight year it has been held. For those traveling to Laramie, tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth (ages 3-18).

BRONCOS IN THE RANKINGS
Boise State debuted at No. 20 in the Preseason InterMat College Rankings, trailing only Oregon State (No. 6) in the Pac-12.

Individually, redshirt senior Jake Swartz (184) and senior J.T. Felix (285) each opened the season ranked fifth-nationally in their respective weight classes. Each is also the highest-ranked individual from the Pac-12 in their respective weight class.
