BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State wrestling team will begin its’ run at another Pac-10 Conference Championship on Saturday (Oct. 31) as the Broncos head north to square off against North Idaho College in Spokane, Wash. The dual will be held at West Valley High School and is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. (PT).
The Broncos have high hopes heading into their 2009-10 campaign, as they return nine NCAA National Qualifiers, two All-Americans and eight starters from last season. Boise State finished 2008-09 with a 17-3 dual record (8-0 conference) en route to winning its’ second consecutive conference title. The Broncos also wrestled to a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
This weekend Boise State head coach Greg Randall is expecting to wrestle the following line-up: Alan Bartelli (125 pounds), Andrew Hochstrasser (133), Brad Perry (141), Levi Jones (149), Adam Hall (157), Brad Muri (165), Michael Cuthbertson (174), Kirk Smith (184), Matt Casperson (197) and Sam Zylstra (HWT).
Hochstrasser, a junior from Tooele, Utah (Tooele HS), leads the way for the Broncos as a returning All-American who compiled a 35-4 record in his sophomore season. He is joined by Smith, a junior from Boise, Idaho (Centennial HS), and Hall, a junior from Bonners Ferry, Idaho (Bonners Ferry HS). Smith led the Broncos in wins as a sophomore after finishing the season with a 38-3 record overall. Hall also had a standout season, finishing with a 35-6 record. Combined, the trio accumulated 108 wins and just 13 losses in 2008-09.
The Broncos return to Boise next week to host their first of just three home duals this season, Nov. 6 (Friday), when Montana-Great Falls comes to town. The dual is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be held in Taco Bell Arena.
