Broncos Open Season Nationally-Ranked

Oct. 10, 2013

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State wrestling team will open its season today, holding the first official practice of 2013-14. And when the Broncos compete for the first time, at the Cowboy Open, Nov. 2, they will do so nationally-ranked.

Boise State debuted at No. 20 in the Preseason InterMat College Rankings of the season, trailing only Oregon State (No. 6) in the Pac-12.

Stanford, checking in at No. 25, is the only other school in the conference ranked in the top 25.

Individually, redshirt senior Jake Swartz (184) and senior J.T. Felix (285) opened the season ranked fifth-nationally in their respective weight classes.

Each is also the highest-ranked individual in their class in the Pac-12.

The Broncos return three wrestlers that competed at the NCAA Championships last year, including Swartz, the two-time defending Pac-12 champion at 184 pounds, Felix and sixth-year senior Brian Owen. Both Felix (285) and Owen (133) finished runner-up at last year's Pac-12 Championships.

Redshirt sophomore Travis Himmelman (141), junior Holden Packard (165) and senior Cody Dixon (197) each finished third at the conference championships last year, and return for the Broncos' 2013-14 campaign.

Boise State will open its home slate against Wyoming Nov. 15 (Friday), at 7 p.m.
