THREE BRONCO WRESTLERS EARN ACADEMIC HONORS FROM THE PAC-10 CONFERENCE

            BOISE, Idaho – The Pac-10 Conference has announced its academic honors for the 2006-07 wrestling season and three Boise State University wrestlers have earned recognition for their efforts in the classroom this past year.

            Luke Smith, Jeff Newby and Andy Patrick earned the awards with Smith being named to the first team squad, Newby the second team and Patrick receiving honorable mention honors.

            A freshman from Idaho Falls, Idaho, Smith has a 3.88 grade point average in biology.  He started the year competing for the Broncos in the 165 pound weight class, but finished the season competing at 184 pounds.  His overall record for the season was 27-16.

            Newby, a freshman from Brigham City, Utah, was named to the second team with a 3.63 GPA in general business management.  He wrestled at 141 pounds this past year posting an overall record of 11-19.

            A sophomore from Boise, Idaho (Meridian HS), Patrick has a 3.09 GPA in entrepreneurial management.  He recently completed his second year in the starting lineup for the Broncos with an overall record of 32-10 in the heavyweight division.  Patrick advanced to the NCAA National Championships, but was unable to compete at the national tournament due to an injury.
