Kirk Smith Will Wrestle For Seventh Place at NCAA Championships

St. Louis Kirk Smith of Boise State University collected a win in the wrestleback at 184-pounds for the Broncos’ only victory during session four of the NCAA Wrestling Championships, Friday, Mar. 21.


Smith advanced to the quarterfinals of the wrestleback with an 8-2 victory over No. 8 seed Roger Kish of Minnesota. He then faced Tyrel Todd of Michigan in the semifinals of the wrestleback but fell 3-2.


The freshman Smith will wrestle for seventh place and All-American honors against Jack Jensen of Oklahoma State, in the fifth session of the NCAA Championships beginning at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Mar. 22.


Smith is the only Boise State wrestler still remaining in the 2008 NCAA Wrestling Championships.


Cory Fish’s run at 133-pounds was ended by the No. 11 seed Joe Baker of Navy, 3-1.


Adam Hall battled the No. 3 seed J.P. O’Connor of Harvard during all three periods but in the end fell 3-1.


Tyler Sherfey was unable to overcome Matt Moley of Bloomsburg College as he lost in the wrestleback 7-4.


Nate Lee fell 9-5 in his match against the No. 6 seed from Hofstra, Alton Lucas.


Boise State is tied with American for 22nd place with 21 points after session four. Iowa leads the NCAA championships with 102 points.
