Five Advance With Wins at NCAA Wrestling Championships

St. Louis Five Boise State wrestlers collected victories in session one NCAA Wrestling Championships, Thursday, Mar. 20, to move to the second round.


Cory Fish advanced at 133 pounds as he knocked off the No. 12 seed Andrae Hernandez of Indiana in a decision 4-3. Fish will move in the second round where he will face No. 5 seed Nicholas Fanthorpe of Iowa State.


Levi Jones defeated Germane Lindsey of Ohio 8-2 to advance to the second round where he will face No. 5 seed Kellen Russell of Michigan.


No. 11 seed Tyler Sherfey advanced on at 157 pounds with an 8-5 victory over Christopher Stout (20-12) of American. Sherfey will match up against No. 6 seed Matt Kocher of Pitt.


No. 10 Kirk Smith collected a major decision as he posted an 11-3 win over Jacob Devlin of Air Force. Smith will face Phillip Keddy of Iowa in the second session.


Nate Lee is in the second session with a 3-1 defeat of No. 8 seed from Minnesota, Gabriel Dretsch, he will face Brandon Mason of Oklahoma State.


Adam Hall, Kurt Swartz, Matt Casperson and Nick Smith all lost in the first session are are now in the wrestleback as they seek a third place finish.


The second session of the NCC Championships will be posted at the completion of the session.
