Boise State Travels to Oregon for Pac-10 Championships

The Pac-10 Championships - The Boise State University wrestling team will compete in the Pacific-10 Championships Mar. 2-3, at McArthur Court in Eugene, Ore.


Session one tournament will begin Sunday, Mar. 2 at 11:00 a.m., with the pig tail and first round matches. Session two will start at 6:00 p.m., and will feature the semi-finals and consolation matches. The third and final session of the Pac-10 Championships will begin at 3:00 p.m., Monday, Mar. 3.


The Teams The field at the Pacific-10 Championships hosted by the University of Oregon will include Boise State, Stanford, Arizona, State, Cal-State Fullerton, Cal-State Bakersfield, UC Davis, Oregon, Cal Poly, Portland State and defending champions Oregon State.


The Broncos Boise State features six wrestlers ranked one or two in the 10 Pac-10 wrestling classes.


Nate Lee is ranked No. 1 at the 174-pound weight class. He posted a 14-4 record on the season and a perfect 8-0 record in Pac-10 competition. Lee has won 10 of his last 11 matches.


Freshman Kirk Smith is ranked No. 1 in the Pac-10 and No. 9 in the country at 184-pounds. He registered a 22-2 record on the season and an 8-0 record in conference matches.


Nick Smith is ranked first in the heavyweight division after recording 5-3 record in conference. He defeated the No. 2 ranked heavyweight wrestler in the Pac-10 conference, Travis Gardner of Oregon State, 8-3 in their only meeting of the season.


Cory Fish leads the second ranked wrestlers as he posted a 6-1 record in Pac-10 matches at the 133-pound weight class. His only loss in conference competition came against the No. 15 wrestler in the nation, T.J. Dillashaw of Cal-State Fullerton.


Adam Hall is ranked 11th in the nation and second in the conference at 149 pounds. Hall has a 20-5 overall record and a 2-1 mark in conference. Hall has either pinned or held his opponent below five points in 19 of his 20 victories.


Kurt Swartz is ranked 16th in the country but second in the Pac-10 conference at 165 pounds. Swartz was a perfect 7-0 in conference but never faced the No. 1 ranked wrestler of Arizona State, Pat Pitsch. He is currently on a nine-match winning streak.


Tyler Sherfey is ranked 12th in the nation and third in the Pac-10 in the 157-pound weight class. Sherfey has a 26-7 record on the season and a 6-1 record in conference. He defeated the Pac-10’s No. 1 ranked wrestler in the weight class, Chase Pami of Cal Poly, 5-2 in their only meeting.


Levi Jones comes in at No. 4 in the 141 pound weight class. He has a 6-6 record this season and has not wrestled in Pac-10 competition. He posted a 19-7 victory over Cole Callaserra of Wyoming in his last match.


Matt Casperson is the fourth ranked wrestler at 197 pounds in the Pac-10. He had a 20-8 record and 7-1 mark in conference dual matches. He rides a 10 match winning streak into the Pac-10 Championships with the last two victories coming via pinfall.


Alan Bartelli is ranked ninth at 125 pounds. He has a 13-11 overall record with two victories coming in conference matches. He has registered six pinfalls for the season.
