Boise State Concludes Day One of Pac-10 Championships

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. The Boise State University wrestling team concluded the second session of the Pacific-10 Championships in a tie for eighth place with 44.5 points through Saturday’s matches at Bakersfield, Calif.


After sitting alone in second place through one session, the Broncos won only two matches in the evening’s events to fall six places in the standings.


Cory Fish earned a one of the two victories when he defeated Oregon’s Ryan Dunn by decision. Fish will continue to wrestle in the consolation bracket for a chance to take third place.


Luke Smith captured the other victory when he defeated Bobbie Musser of California State University, Fullerton, 8-2 in the consolation bracket.


In the semifinals, Tyler Sherfey and Brian Stith of Arizona State engaged in the wrestling equivalent of a war but eventual Stith prevailed 9-7. At 161 lbs., Johnny Nunez was defeated by No. 1 seed Dustin Noack. Nate Lee and No. 2 seed Jeremy Larson battled till the end by Larson earned the victory. At the heavyweight position Andy Patrick was upset by the No. 3 seed from Cal Poly, Cody Parker. Sophomore Cam Jones retired giving Morgan Atkinson the victory at 149 lbs.


The Pac-10 Championships will continue Sunday, Feb. 25. The third session begins at 11:00 a.m. and will feature consolation semifinals and the fifth place matches. The final session features the championships and third place matches and will be held Sunday, Feb. 25, at 6:00 p.m.
