Martinez Garners League Accolade
Feb. 16, 2016

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State sophomore Geordan Martinez was named the Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

The accolade is the first for a Bronco wrestler this season.

Martinez, the nation’s 15th-ranked 149-pounder, garnered the award following a 3-0 performance this past week as the Broncos wrestled a pair of top-25 opponents in Stanford and CSU Bakersfield, in addition to Cal Poly in an outdoor dual, on the road.

The Peyton, Colo., product began the week with a shutout victory over Stanford’s Tommy Pawelski (2-0), then followed with a 6-3 decision over CSU Bakersfield’s Coleman Hammond. He capped the road trip with a pin of Cal poly’s Jacob Leon in 1-minute, 39-seconds.

With the three victories Martinez extended his streak of consecutive wins to 14.

Boise State will close out the 2015-16 regular season this week, traveling to Corvallis, Ore., to take on Oregon State in this year’s edition of the Border War. The Broncos and Beavers are slated to hit the mat at noon (MT), and the dual will be televised by Pac-12 Oregon.

The dual is the last test of the season before the Pac-12 Championships, scheduled for Feb. 27 in Tempe, Ariz. Tickets to the tournament can be purchased HERE.
