STILLWATER, Okla. - The Boise State wrestling team (4-9) split two matches at the National Duals Regional in Stillwater, Okla., Saturday. The Broncos fell in the first round to No. 7 Ohio State 26-9 before topping Chattanooga 25-17. The Broncos were in a six-team regional bracket with No. 1 seed Oklahoma State, No. 2 Nebraska, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Wyoming and No. 5 Chattanooga.

In the opening round the Broncos were overpowered by the Buckeyes who had eight of the ten members of their lineup ranked in Intermat's top 20.

George Ivanov entered his 157-pound bout ranked 14th and would be tested by the Buckeyes' Josh Demas, who is currently 20th. Ivanov emerged successful, giving the Broncos their first points of the match with a 5-3 decision and secured his 20th win of the season, a team best.

With Boise State down 26-3, heading into the final two matches, Bronco heavyweights Brent Chriswell and J.T. Felix were able to reduce the Buckeyes' margin by earning two decisions for the Orange and Blue. Chriswell upset No. 20 Andrew Campolattano 7-3 and Felix defeated Kosta Karageorge 4-2 by scoring a takedown with 18 seconds left in the bout.

Brian Owen made his 2011-12 debut at 133 pounds, moving Shawn Jones up to 141 pounds and Josh Strait to 149 pounds.

The Broncos rebounded in their second match of the day thanks to a late push from the heavyweights who put together four-consecutive wins for a 25-17 victory.

With Boise State down 4-0 after the first bout of the match, Brian Owen recorded his first pin of the season at 1:26 mark in a big upset over No. 13 Nick Soto.

The Mocs picked up two wins at 141 and 149 pounds to regain the lead but No. 14 George Ivanov recorded a major decision and notched his second win of the day. The junior from Council Bluffs, Iowa is 21-5 this season.

The Broncos were forced to forfeit at 165 pounds due to injury, causing Chattanooga's lead to increase to eight points (17-10).

Scott Bacon and Jake Swartz each did their part in diminishing the Mocs lead. Both came away with four-point decisions, making the score 17-16.

Brent Chriswell completed the comeback by pinning Cory Canada 1:06 into the first period. The redshirt junior from Ollala, Wash., now has seven wins this season, three of which have come by fall.

Now with the lead, sophomore J.T. Felix had a nice cushion to notch a Boise State win but did not need it. He defeated Kevin Malone in a 6-4 decision.

The Bronco wrestling team will have two weeks off before they compete at the Pac-12 Championships in Boise at Taco Bell Arena, Feb. 26. Tickets can be purchased at idahotickests.com.
