BRONCO WRESTLERS TURN IN ANOTHER DOMINATING PERFORMANCE / DOWN STANFORD 38-3

                BOISE, Idaho In its final home match of the 2008-09 season, the Boise State University wrestling team turned in another dominating performance on Sunday (Feb. 8) afternoon as the 11th ranked Broncos (15-3, 6-0 Pac-10) handed Stanford University (7-13-1, 2-5 Pac-10) a 38-3 loss at Bronco Gym. 

                The victory marked the fourth straight dual Boise State has lost no more than one individual match. 

Prior to Sunday’s win, Boise State lost only match in a 37-4 win over Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 23, shutout Cal Poly 41-0 on Jan. 24 and again lost only one individual match yesterday (Feb. 7) in a 38-3 win over UC Davis.

Not only has Boise State been dominate in its last four matches, the Broncos have been doing the same thing for all its home duals this year.  In 70 individual matches competed at home this year, Boise State lost only 11 while outscoring its opponents 239-45.

On Sunday, after splitting the first two matches at heavyweight and 125 pounds, Alan Bartelli started a string of eight straight wins for the Broncos when he handed Porfirio Madrigal an 11-5 defeat at 133 pounds.

Senior Cory Fish, wrestling his final match in Bronco Gym, extended Boise State’s lead to double digits (13-3) in the next match at 141 pounds with a 10-1 major decision over Cameron Teitelman.

Boise State again scored extra team points in its next two matches as 17th ranked Jason Chamberlain dominated Timmy Boone in a 23-7 technical fall victory at 149 pounds, and sixth ranked Adam Hall made quick work at 157 pounds with a pin just 1:43 into his match with Lucas Espericueta.

Tyler Sherfey, Boise State’s other senior in the starting lineup, also came away a winner in his last collegiate match in Boise with a hard fought 3-2 decision over Nick Amuchastegui at 165 pounds.  Sherfey, ranked No. 18, won the match with just 20 seconds remaining when he scored a two-point takedown.

The Broncos recorded major decision wins at the next two weight classes as 13th ranked Nate Lee downed Victory Haug 12-4 at 174 pounds, while Kirk Smith, ranked No. 4 at 184 pounds, posted a 14-5 win over Jake Johnson.

Brent Chriswell, ranked No. 5 at 197 pounds, closed out the victory for Boise State with a 6-4 decision over Luke Feist.

Boise State will wrestled its final dual matches of the 2008-09 season on Sunday (Feb. 15) with a 2:00 p.m. contest at Oregon State University, followed by a 7:00 p.m. match at Portland State.

                The Broncos begin defense of its 2008 Pac-10 Conference Championship on March 1 (Sunday) in Fullerton, California.
