Last time out...
Boise State concluded its' final Pac-10 Conference road trip last weekend (Jan. 29-30) with duals at Stanford and UC Davis. The Broncos improved their conference record to 6-0 with a 29-15 win over the Cardinal on Friday, and a 30-13 win over the Aggies on Saturday.
Boise State in the national rankings...
The Broncos (13-2 overall, 6-0 Pac-10) continue to rank in the top 10 of three major polls this week, which includes a No. 6 dual team ranking by Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine. Boise State is also tied with Oklahoma at No. 8 by NWCA/USA Today and No. 10 by this week's InterMat poll.
W.I.N. also releases a weekly Tournament Power Index, which ranks teams based on their projected finish at the NCAA tournament. Teams are awarded points based on the number of projected All-Americans, and the number of wrestlers expected to finish No. 8-20. This week Boise State moved up to No. 2 (70.5 points) in the W.I.N. TPI, trailing only Iowa (97 points).
The Broncos also earned several individual votes in the InterMat top 20, as six wrestlers were ranked this week for their respective weight class. Leading the way once again is junior Kirk Smith (19-0 overall, 14-0 dual), who is currently ranked as the No. 1 184-pound wrestler in the country.
Smith is followed by Andrew Hochstrasser (8-0, 8-0), who moved up to No. 2 at 133 pounds this week. Adam Hall (22-2, 14-0) was the only Bronco to drop this week, despite winning both his matches last weekend. Hall was No. 2 at 157 pounds last week, but dropped one spot to No. 3 in this week's poll.
Junior Levi Jones (16-3, 12-1) continues to rise in the national rankings as he reached No. 4 in the 141-pound ranking this week. Jones has made the biggest move in the national rankings of any Bronco this season, as he was unranked in the InterMat preseason poll and started at No. 20 in the first regular season InterMat ranking.
Sophomore Jason Chamberlain (18-7, 10-4) earned the next highest individual ranking for Boise State this week as he was voted No. 6 at 149 pounds. Rounding out the group of Broncos in the top-20 was senior Nate Lee (13-3, 12-2), who was ranked No. 11 at 174 pounds.
Looking at the Wolverines...
