Bronco Wrestlers hand Northern Colorado 27-10 Defeat

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State University's wrestling team won seven of 10 matches, including two by pin, to hand the University of Northern Colorado a 27-10 defeat at Taco Bell Arena Friday (Jan. 31) night.

The Broncos improve to 3-6 in dual matches this season, while Northern Colorado falls to 5-8.

With the team score tied at three following two matches, Chris Castillo gave the Broncos a 9-3 lead when he pinned Nick Alspaugh at the 2:06 mark of the 149-pound match.

Following a Bronco loss at 157 pounds, Boise State rattled off five straight wins with heavyweight J.T. Felix capping the streak with a pin over Henry Chirino just one minute into the match.  The win by the No. 9 ranked Felix improved his season record to 19-3.

The Broncos' other nationally ranked wrestler, No. 7 Jake Swartz, improved his record to 10-1 on the season with a 6-1 decision over Nick Bayer at 184 pounds.

Boise State's other four wins were also by decision with Brian Owen posting an 8-3 win over Nick Adams at 133 pounds; Holden Packard with a 6-3 win over Charlie McMartin at 165 pounds; Austin Dewey with a 10-6 decision over Josh Van Tine at 174 pounds; and Cody Dixon coming away with a 7-2 win over Cole Briegel at 197 pounds.

The Broncos hit the road tomorrow (Feb. 1) traveling to Orem, Utah to face Utah Valley University.

Their next home match is Feb. 7 (Friday) against Oregon State University at Bronco Gym.
