DAVIS, Calif. Winning the first three matches and jumping out to a quick 9-0 lead, the Boise State University wrestling team improved its overall record on the season to 4-1 with a 21-15 Pac-10 Conference win over Stanford University

            Ninth ranked Kirk Smith started the dual off with a 5-2 victory in the 184 pound weight class.  Matt Casperson followed Smith’s win with a 3-2 decision over Jake Johnson at 197 pounds, before Nick Smith posted a 3-1 decision over Phillip Doerner in the heavyweight division.

            After trading individual wins between the two teams in the next four weight classes, Stanford tied the match at 15 when it picked up key team points in the next two weight divisions.  The Cardinal received six team points at 149 pounds when Boise State had to forfeit the match, and another unexpected three points at 157 pounds when 13th ranked Josh Zupancic upset 10th ranked Tyler Sherfey, 3-1.

            Boise State put the match away in the final two matches of the night when 18th ranked Kurt Swartz defeated Peter Miller 5-3 at 165 pounds, and Nate Lee posted a 10-3 decision over Luke Feist in the 174-pound weight class.

            The match was held on the UC Davis campus as Boise State improved its league record to 3-1. 

            Boise State’s completes its two-day trip to central California when it faces UC Davis on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
