SAN LOUIS OBISPO, Calif. - In a match that came down to the final bout, the Boise State wrestling team (1-6, 1-4 Pac-12) lost a close battle against No. 19 Cal Poly,22-20, Sunday.

The Broncos found themselves in 6-0 hole early, forfeiting the 125-pound bout before Shawn Jones made up some ground with a 23-12 major decision over the Mustangs' Jake Tanenbaum.

Cal Poly responded with wins at 141 and 149 pounds from No. 4 Boris Novachkov and Kyle Chene, respectively. Heading into the fifth bout, the Broncos were at a 14-4 disadvantage.

No. 16 George Ivanov earned six points for the Broncos by pinning Gianpier Yanez at the 5:39 mark. The result was Ivanov's second-consecutive win by fall, and the fourth of the season. The Council Bluffs, Iowa native is 16-4 overall this season and finished 3-0 on the Pac-12 road trip.

Michael Cuthbertson (165) followed with a pin of his own with less than a minute left in the first period. The win put the Broncos ahead in for the first time in the match, as they led 16-13.  

The Mustangs had an answer in the form of wins at 174, 184 and 197 pounds, regaining the lead 22-16 heading into the final bout of the day.

At heavyweight, J.T. Felix needed a pin against Kelan Bragg to even up the score at 22. Though Felix notched an 18-8 major decision, Bragg was able to keep the Mustang lead intact.

Boise State will next hit the mats at Utah Valley, Thursday, Jan. 12. Action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
