Bronco Wrestling Gets First Win of Season

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Boise State wrestling team (1-5, 1-3 Pac-12) got its first win of the 2011-12 season by defeating the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners, 27-12 at the Icardo Center, Friday.

The Broncos jumped out to an early 14-0 lead after the first four matches and never looked back.

Freshman Scott Bacon (174) and sophomore Cody Dixon (184) earned 4-2 and 10-4 decisions, respectively, to start things off for the Orange and Blue.

With Boise State up 6-0, Brent Chriswell added three more points to the Bronco total by defeating A.C. Brown, 5-2 in the third match of the night. Chriswell, who made just his second appearance of the season, is undefeated at 2-0.

Heavyweight J.T. Felix snapped a four-match losing streak with his 17-1 tech fall over Steven Wood. Felix had two near falls in the second period, but it was his 3-point near fall in the third period that ended the match at 5:28.

The Roadrunners notched two-consecutive wins at 125 and 133 pounds before Ben DeMuelle earned a 10-8 decision and Steven Hernandez followed with a 14-4 major decision, putting Boise State up 21-9. Both wrestlers moved to 2-0 on the road trip.

No. 16 George Ivanov put up the last points for the Broncos. The junior ended his bout at the 6:02 mark by pinning Bakersfield's Anthony Box.

The wrestling squad will continue its Pac-12 road trip Sunday, Jan. 8 when it faces No. 19 Cal Poly.
